Having followed the mortgage free threads for a long while I am ready and eager to take up this challenge in the New Year. I have joined the Mortgage in 3 challenge. My aim is to reduce my mortgage from £90k to £50K in the next 3 years. Last month I reduce the term of my mortgage from 13years 7 months to 10 years so now finishing Dec 2022.

We will probably move in the next 2 years as my husband will change jobs and also could do with a bigger house. Have wondered about a loft conversion as we have 2 teenagers who over fill the house. Have not looked into this so will instead just carry on saving as my daughter will be off to uni next September.

Today I have finished the last of the xmas shopping just have 2 items to collect in town that I have ordered and a picture frame to buy. My sons birthday is on 27th so have that to think about now.
Off to meal plan as have so much in the freezer cant fit a turkey in there if I wanted to. Will also write a xmas food shopping list for a couple of days before xmas. Aiming not to buy anything other than fresh things before this shop.

Have sent all cards and presents by post this week and brought my stamps early in the year before the price went up and should hopefully have more than half leftfor next year.:T

  • Hello, and welcome. I am new here too.

I know what you mean about living with teenagers, our son is still living with us and he is 23. I am torn between buying a bigger house for us all or paying off my morgage to help him buy a small place by himself. His 24 year old sister also stays here for a few months of the year - she works abroad the other months, so it is a tight squeeze at times! Son is autistic, so not sure if he would handle living apart from us, but he is desperate to try!

Anyway, did not mean to hijack your thread...just wanted to say good luck!

Welcome and good luck with your journey!!
  • Hi Kirstypark and Lullabelle1 thanks for dropping in feel free to keep me company on this journey. I will see if you have diaries and subscribe.
It is difficult with teenagers as in about 10 years time they will have left home and our house will be adequate. That's as long as their not still at home when they reach 40 as I have read.:rotfl:

Had lunch out with my friend today try and meet up each week have been friends since our children were at toddlers. Went around the sale in Laura Ashley 40% off something's. After she left I nipped back in and brought her a couple of things she liked as we are going to hers for Boxing Day including my Mum so 5 of us. Will take food and drink as well but know she will like this. So ended up paying £22.60 instead of £42.:T:

Have meal planned for the coming week or so.
Tonight UFO (unidentified frozen object) turned out to be shepherds pie and portion of curry. I didn't eat as had late lunch.
Saturday. Takeaway (treat once a month)
    Sunday Curry
    Monday Spaggetti Bol
    Tuesday egg,sausage, bacon etc
    Wednesday cheesy bacon pasta
    Thursday gammon mash and veg
Friday pitza or fish & chips
Saturday chicken Kiev & jacket potatoes
    Sunday roast
    Monday chicken chow mien.
Have all ingredients just need bean sprouts and noodles will leave that until the end of the week.

Will sort out list of jobs for next week.

I've subscribed and will definitely be seeing how you get on, especially if you continue to provide details of your meal plan as I'm always looking for some inspiration...... It gets weary trying to think of which meals to add to the meal plan week in week out.... That said, it still amazes me that most of my friends don't do meal plans... They just scratch their heads each night and wonder what they will eat. Weird.

Tricky deciding what to do in regards to more space.... Our boys are 8 and 3 and we wonder whether we should consider a LC in the future to give us all more space when they get a bit older, but just can't bring myself to spend the money at the moment, although the sooner it's done, the longer you get to enjoy it in theory....
  • laura ashley have a sale on? i need to go into town for a look...wait a minute, supposed to be saving money, not spending it:rotfl:

Not everything was in the sale but all the Xmas secs were. Their wreaths were half price £20. Worth a look could start next years Xmas shopping.

Had a busy day today cooking have made

    [*]Curry
    [*]Shepherds pie

    [*]Parsnip and apple soup
    [*]Sausage casserole
    [*]Eve's pudding
Have stopped for a rest. I have also pulled some weeds out the front boarder and sorted out hanging basket and washed the car. Had a small spend to buy some baked beans for my shepherds pie and brought some chocolate to enjoy whilst having a rest. Will put most of these dishes I have made in the freezer. The soup I have at work for lunch. The ironing basket is calling me so I had better go. Have a good evening everyone.

    • A less busy day

      Had a lie in
Made 2 deserts one for Xmas
      Made sausage rolls.
      Cleaned kitchen

      Money wise
Up to 148 on ad points this week. Max I can get nowhere near the 250 limit.
£18 sent to savings returned top yesterday that I brought to wear to Xmas do next week. Didn't like it so wearing a top I already ow.
No money spent today as haven't left the house. Yesterday only spent £12 on takeaway and £2.41 in the local tesco's so £14.41 spent all weekend.:j

Off now to see about putting a couple of things on ebay as its free listing. Haven't sold anything for a while so could do with a scout around the house.

    • Back to work today. Took my nice homemade soup parsnip & apple and met my friend for lunch. So another NSd today. Day off tomorrow however have to

Collect 2 items from 2 different shops
Get car tax for my car
Get driving licence application for my son
Give living room a good clean before the tree goes up at the weekend
      Open new savings account

Opening a new savings account as I have already paid 10% allowed off my mortgage for this year. For each 1,000 extra I pay over that I have to pay £130. This is until my fixed rate ends July 14. Therefore I will save in an account till next Novembers overpayment.

Some brown paper for when I get ebaying. Did get a coffee on the way back through the outlet centre. So less than £10 spent today. Made Spaggetti bolognese as at parents evening tomorrow night so will be late back. Off to sleep now as really tired. Night all.

    • Well busy evening Wednesday night and Christmas meal last night. Was going to my mums today and take her shopping but have had to cange plans. A chap reversed into my car this morning and I am waiting for the insurance company to call back regarding a hire car. :mad:So I'm grounded. Can't drive mine as I have no drivers wing mirror. So a NSd today for me.
Have been doing house work this morning and going to wrap some presents this afternoon.
