Background ..... I live is a pretty rural area & roads are carp when the weather's bad & I don't particularly like driving in snow / ice:o
There's a huge hill with a huger shear drop  that I have go go up & over each way to work - and it's terrible for extra snow / ice (as it's so high) and there's often black ice on the way down
So - if it's really bad, I get the bus (that's how much I hate driving in it:rotfl:). Bit of a nightmare as a mile + walk to the bus stop (not great as I have a gammy foot!), the wait and then around 20 min journey ... compared to 15 mins door to door in the car
Apart from the above - the downside is the cost .... £8 / day on the bus compared to £3 in fuel! OK if it's the odd trip, but if there's a bad couple of weeks in a row then it really blows the budget! (as in the bad winter a couple of winters ago).
Not worth buying a weekly or monthly pass as it can be odd days here & there so ... it's £4 each way.
There is now a 2nd bus optionbut it's just a small company with limited buses running a day & at odd times (for fitting in with work).
I could manage to get the morning one and it's a lot cheaper @ £2(just shows eh!) - but would still need to get the original bus home.... so that would be £6 / day instead of £8 / day.
Just not sure how many to budget for now!
Originally I'd gone with 3 weeks @ £8 / day = £120 but I could cut that to £90 if it was £6 / day .... or do I leave it at £120 and go for 4 weeks on the bus instead of 3:o.
Surely I'd not need to get the bus for 4 weeks ..... help!
£90 is probably more realistic as not been doing too well with putting money aside - I've been putting the LO money from the Weekly Spend Challenge to it the past few weeks which has made a big difference but still no-where near what it should be!
Rising also remember that if you use the bus you're saving £3 on fuel so in theory you only need £5 per day for the bus as the £3 will net off against it, so if you saved £100 it would be 20 days journey net of your fuel, so in theory your pot is further along the you think

Well, so much for the internet wine, whoops.... I went on (agreed at home during the day today) work drinks, and thought I'd chance alcohol - one round bouught by me, 2 lagers and a coke later and I'm in the dog house with Mr Shortie as he had to wait for me (he used my car today so dropped me off and had to pick me up - if I'd have driven in this morning I would have stuck to coke!). Oh, and I'm itchy to boot.
I can't quite see how right now, but I guess this serves me right eh? Next time I'll stay put for a non-itchy and Mr Shortie-grump-free e-wine. I can bring the e-nibbles...?April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -

Sorry El .... I just couldn't stay up any longer last night
Intention was to read for a while but I must've crashed as soon as I lay down.
Unfortunately, I never sleep very long at once (4 - 5 hours max) so .... you know where this is going don't you!
Woke up and knew it was early ...... really early ...... tossed and turned for a while and finally plucked up courage to look at the clock and  3:35 am *sigh*. Tossed and turned some more, turned on the news at 4:30 and then tossed and turned some more
So - nearly ready to head off for another sleep!:rotfl:Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

You're absolutely right that the difference is only the £5 (or now £3) / day between fuel and the bus fares but the reason I've incl the full £8 (or £6) / day is that fuel is paid on my c/card and cleared at the month end ... so it's not money I have in a budget to be able to take cash out and use if for the bus instead - does that make sense?
Hoping to rectify that by getting all the "missing pots" up and running next year!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
