So ... on that note, I've been taking part in mineallmine's 7 days challenge https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4328971
Quite enjoying it as I do tend to know I need to do things but as they're not urgent I tend to just let them lie rather than getting on with them:o but it's also throwing up lots of other things that need doing along the way so it would need to be more of a rolling challenge for me .....
Anyway, my 7 things were:rising_from_the_ashes wrote: »1. Write to bank to close old savings account & request a cheque for outstanding balance (only around £3 but hey ...)
2. Write to old employer's pension agency to advise of change of address (moved in 2007) and request update pension forecast * have found all pension paperwork ready to write letters - have also discovered a pension I'd forgotten about
(tiny one & have tried to close / transfer it in the past which I can't & is a bit of a pain as it's never going to be worth anything!)
3. Write to CU to increase salary deduction to savings account to £20 / month (have been meaning to do this all year:o)
4. Financial filing - sorting through bags of old stuff from the "forgotten years" # 1 big bag leftshredder overheated earlier:eek: so hoping it'll work again once it's cooled down!
5. Start new DFW Diary DONE
6. Sort out new ISA for 2012 monthly saver money (boiler fund) Form to sign arrived yesterday BUT it says to enclose a cheque for payment - when it said I could do the transfer online..... no idea where my cheque book is  (it will be somewhere safe .... just where is the problem:o) DONE! Found cheque book (last cheque written in 2009 :rotfl:), completed, in envelope & sitting to take to post the next time I go out! ETA have just remembered to move the funds to the account that the cheque will be coming out of!
7. Sort mobile cashback claim - recorded delivery returned by RM .... DONE! Turns out they'd moved  all sorted now!:) (hopefully - will see if the cheque arrives!)

A bit of a rant / ramble - I'm annoyed:o
mmmm why is it that everything always breaks down on me at this time of year? Last year it was the fridge / freezer - right before Christmas as well (and I had to live with stuff in boxes in the garage for a fortnight!) and .... after the iron fiasco earlier in the week *sigh*
Now I know that this isn't very :money: and I will hear some of you shreeeeekkkkkk when you hear this, but I've just started to use the TD again - mainly for towels & bedding.
Previous diary readers may remember the problems I'd been having with damp in my spare room (think I wrote about it) which I'd put down to having washing hanging around all the time.
With my health not being great just now, I need to try to get rid of as much damp as poss - hence deciding to use the TD again (which I don't think was used more than a couple of times in the last couple of years!).
It costs 20p to do a load and at a max of 2 / week .... a worthwhile trade off for me at the minute.
So .... put a load of stuff in (not soaking wet as it'd been in the laundry basket overnight), stuck it on for an hour ... and it's still damp
Checked the filter thing and cleared the vents out but it's only blowing luke warm air out - assume the heating elements on it's way out
Looked them up online - thinking this was a wee job I might be able to attempt myself and .... £50.25:eek: I can get a new one for £109
It doesn't owe me anything - it was one of the 1st things I bought when I moved into my 1st flat ...... 17 years ago!:)
It's hard to justify spending the money on a new one for the amount I use it .... but I really need it just now
Off to have a bit of a sulk and a cuppa to defrost after being in the garage for 1/2 an hour!:)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Hi Rising,
Do you have two heat settings on yours? Mine has cool or hot and sometimes I accidentaly knock it to cool and I wonder why my washing isn't drying.
Also I have a little trip button on the back top left of mine. If my tumble drier ever gets abit hot, it trips the heating element out and I have to push the button back in.
Just thought i would mention those two things in case its not really broken.
I must admit, I don't know how you can dry clothes in this weather and drying them indoors is so unhealthy. For the sake of 40p per week.
Check on Freecycle or Ebay in case there are any second hand ones going cheap.
Hope you get it sorted soon. xxx0 -
Thanks for that Steph
I've been out and had a good look and can't find a trip / reset button anywhere
(that would've been handy!)
It does have 2 heat settings but TBH I've never been able to tell the difference between them (even when it's working the same amount of heat seemed to come out).
Have finally managed to get the few things that were in it reasonably dry (still damp but should dry by the end of the day once hung up).....
Will have to ponder on what to do - I've looked at Gum*tree and a couple there but nearly as expensive as a new one ..... e*bay has nothing nearby and nothing on free*cycle just now (may post a wanted ad!).
ETA there's already 3 wanted ads for them! and 2 broken ones....Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Hi rising, my thread on it seems to have disappeared, i think it was archived as it was yonks ago.
Anyway, as it turns out, it was just a pump i needed, and it cost me £24
On the back of your TD, is there a small plastic 'box'?
EDIT- the box may have 2 tubes going into it?0 -
Nope, it's all silver / metal and I'm assuming you unscrew it and the whole back comes off.
It is ancient - just had a quick look and a heating element is around £50:eek: TBH if it's that much (and I've no guarantee that it'll work after that & then something else could go) - I'm 1/2 way towards the cost of a new oneGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
