    sorry wrong word to use,

I have no problem with that, please don't take my post as any personal attack against yourself, it wasn't intended that way.

There are at least 500,000 people viewing Sky from outside the UK, that is a lot of subscriptions Sky don't want to lose, Sky are happy for the money, but due to the rights they buy, if someone comes out and says by the way we don't live in the UK, Sky have to be seen to frown upon it and cancel the sub, just to keep the people happy they buy the rights off, to show them they are trying to play by the rules, but often it will be ignored, because they are happy for the money.

The actual viewing of the service isn't against any law, just against Sky's terms and conditions, which Sky mostly ignore themselves when the extra revenue is coming in, as said above unless someone is stupid enough to repeatedly state they are viewing outside the UK, nothing will be done. Sky aren't going to want to lose £20,000,000 per month.

its ilegal to view abroad, you may get away with it , most people get cut off as they have overdue callbacks, plus u may have cli charges to pay ( not connected to phone line) if u have 2 different lines in one house sky request proof of this

u can pay a one off payment of £25 not to connected your box.

Well that's interesting. I do have 2 telephone lines in my house. Are you saying it is possible to have Sky Mulitroom, prove I have 2 lines in the house, and use them both. I can certainly prove that.

Also £25.00 to not be connected to my box. Really?

The £25 is only if you have a single box and not multi-room.

It's to pay for the manual authorisation of the card when box is first installed.

Sky 99% of the time never police the phone line requirement on single box installs, so you could simply have the box connected on day of install and then remove box from phone line once installers have gone.

However for multi-room all boxes must be connected to a working phone line at all times, so they know the box is at the same address, otherwise you could easily have multi-room but share the cost with friends, neighbours or relatives anywhere.

    On my travels

It seems to me by using Sipgate it is possible to have a Manchester, London, Birmingham number in more than 1 location. In other words a number like 020 8131 9900 could be in my office in London and my home address in Manchester. If a call is recieved the phone will ring in London & Manchester. I believe SKY use caller ID to make sure the number is the same for multi room. In theory at least, it is possible to have that 020 8131 9900 number in Spain. There is no EU law being broken here. It is just a case of not abiding by SKY's terms & conditions. If they find out they can indeed suspend the service or charge you extra. Unfortunately for me, I have not got ADSL in Spain and I don't believe it is possible to use VOIP without it.

This is why I am unsure about SKY. I just don't like their ethos

If I sign up with SKY with Multiroom I am compelled to have a telephone line. How dare they!!! I understand, as things stand why they insist on this, but surely this is pretty invasive. They make enough money, why not find another way around this. I'm considering ordering a TV service from them not a telephone service. Next they will be telling their customers a condition of having multiroom is you can't have Broadband with company x, y or Z.

    EDIT

Say for example I was deaf and wanted SKY mulitroom. I would need to pay BT £11.00 per month to suit SKY. Disgusting

The few deaf people I know still have a phoneline, though would be unfair if they didn't need a phone line, but then I don't have a phone line either as I just use VoIP.

VoIP does really require a broadband connection, though doesn't have to be ADSL, for example cable broadband is not ADSL and doesn't require a phone line.

Using VoIP is a bit hit and miss, more miss than hit for the callback. Very few people have got it to work.

If I were to subscribe to Sky+ (not multiroom) is it possible to insert the card into a different box once in a while or are they paired to a specific box.

The card is matched up to one box, but only for the Sports and Sky Film channels, you can use the card in another box, but if you subscribe to the Sports and Films they won't appear on the box.

Do you know of a box that is small enough to transport yet able to recieve signal in Costa De Sol. Does the £25 just move events along by 12 months?

You can buy a box and dish from Satellite UK they will even sort out your viewing card, they have info on which boxes work best in Spain as they specialise in kit for ex-pats.
