Electronic cigs- please settle an argument
swingaloo
Im a non smoker, my neighbour is a heavy smoker and for Christmas her husband is getting her one of those vapour cigs that are now on sale.
Now she is adamant that they are legal on aircraft. She also thinks the electronic ones are also legal. I certainly wouldnt want to be sat next to anyone with one of those vapour cigs and cant believe they can be used on aircraft.
Can they?

they are banned on BA flights and have a feeling they are banned on most uk airlines0

They are legal but aren't welcome on flights as it upsets other customers as it looks like smoking even though it's just water vapour. Take some nicotine gum on board instead.:footie:

That's two different questions.
Q: Is it legal to use electronic cigaretttes on an aircraft?
A: Yes, at least I'm not aware of any country that has made their use on board an aircraft an offence.
Q: Can you use electronic cigaretttes on an aircraft?
A: Depends on the airline. I believe most UK airlines do not permit their use. So the answer would be, no. Openly at least.0 -

Why wouldn't you want to sit next to someone with an ecig no smell and vapour is harmless?0 -
Be fair, they do smell, not as much as a fag but I can tell what flavour someone is smoking if I'm sitting next to them, but I don't find the vapour irritates my eyes, nose and throat anywhere near as much as smoke.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I give a person a lift to work who uses the vapour cigs. Quite honestly - the vapour is NOT smell free whatever they advertise and secondly, its like having fog inside the car, horrible.
I would certainly complain if I found myself sat next to someone on a plane.0 -
If there's an amount of fog or smell then either the person is vaping too much or they're burning the juice and wrecking it (Am a vaper/electronic cigarette smoker myself, and only have the problems swingaloo described when my coil is about to die).
They ARE legal but it is up to the airline/pub/owner of whatever place you want to vape in whether they are accepted or not. There is a scent from them, but not strong, and it's nicotine and chemical free, although some people may have an allergy to the PG/VG/flavour used so i'd not use in an enclosed area* Jan NSD *

They are allowed on Ryanair flights.0

I'm sure on a Ryan Air flight they were selling them and saying they were ok to smoke on board. I was only listening with half an ear because I don't smoke.
They def sold them. I can't remember anyone lighting up tho.But if ever I stray from the path I follow

A friend of mine too a electronic cig on a plane she asked the stewardess if she was allowed to use is to which she said no but you are able to use them in the loo as it won't set off the smoke alarm.
But you can't use them whilst in your seat.
