ahem.. tesco value loo roll here but when I have small children flushing a roll at a time that is all I am prepared to buy!
Sanitary products.. DD1 has boots ones which she likes better than any of the 'better' brands. I went beyond cheap and have a new to me mooncup! lol
Make-up.. cosmetics and toiletries.. though huby gets cheap stuff as he's not sensitive like what I is!! phnarr!!!
shoes.. clarks for the children.. always.. or startrite if I can get to the shop.
next/bhs/vertbaudet/boden etc for the childrens clothes.. they have to last up to 5 children so I buy good stuff.
fabric conditioner.. has to be comfort or lenor.. with tesco value wash powder!.
Big electrical appliances.. they get that much hammer in here they have to be decent.. bosch and zanussi queen here.
buggies.. I have a proper chunky pushchair for the littlies.. I loathe those nasty uncomfy looking umbrella buggy things.. plus they set my RSI off.
Mattress.. has ot be a good quality firm mattress.
Toothbrushes I have to pay full whack as it has to be like a yard brush.. none of these floppy bristles!!
Ditto paint.. macphersons here!
Axminster/100% wool carpets in here too in high traffic areas.
Furniture.. I want it to last forever not 2 years then have to replace it.
Food I am much less picky over.. I just find the cheaper they are the less salt/additives they usually contain (not always I know!) so aside from juice it is mainly value brands in here.. but tonights value carrots, peas, chicken and potatoes were delicious!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Have real trouble spending on stuff that will end up down the loo, sink or in the bin.
Therefore cheapy cleaning products - but I'm only using them up since I'm going more OS by the day - honest guv!:D
We've tried downshifting loo paper. Didn't really work as I had to increase liquid handwash usage for afterwards. Sorry too much information. Back up to own brand though, not the really top brands and it's fine.
I despise the value kitchen roll - it really is useless but I make do as I can't bring myself to pay for the good stuff.
Has anyone put a J-type cloth in the washer!

Deodorant, definitely, complete waste of time.
Had a bad experience with cheap saucepans this year as well, non-stick coating coming off and rusting.
Re toothbrushes, I get decent brands like Colgate ones for 39p in Home Bargains!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Buying cheaper things is not always the solution to save money. Quality must come first. Then we must get rid of buying luxurious stuffs so often, focus on the basic needs. In other words, just give more importance to what you need and not what you want. Just like for instance, when I bought Stiletto100 radio, i made it sure that its quality is good with a reasonable price. You can never save on things without durability.0

Washing up liquid e.g Value - so watery you have to put the same amount in as you would with fairy. Stuff like Morning Fresh, Tescos etc is alright, I only get Fairy cos its super cheap at Lidl.We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0

Cheap diesel from supermarkets just doesnt suit our car ( a year-old Renault) and causes problems, so now we use Shell or Esso and it runs better and gets 3 or 4 more MPG.
Cheap crisps are a waste of money too as the kids don't eat them (so maybe it IS MSE!) so now I stick to Walkers. I've even stopped buying the cheap assorted multipacks as there are only 3 flavours they like, and I got fed up with only getting the left over Cheddar or Beef varieties.0 -

Hi charlies_mum,
I've added your thread into another thread on the same subject as it helps to keep all the replies together.
