I'm very frustrated by the requirements of most (all?) the courier companies that shipments have to be in cardboard boxes. I'm trying to get a couple of bags (golf bags/suitcases) sent from Lincolnshire to London but finding cardboard boxes to fit them in is both difficult and annoying.
Has anyone found a courier company that is efficient, reasonably priced and willing to take bags - either as is or pallet-wrapped - on such a seemingly simple journey?0 -

I have used lots of different couriers to send lots of different things and never used a cardboard box. I use mail bags to send anything. If I use a box then I put a mail bag round it.
I'd try a pallet company if you have a couple of large items. As long as you can get a bin lorry down your street and where you are sending it, then a pallet network may be your answer. Some of them will even supply a pallet. I have used them a few times when its is cheaper to send a few big items that way than several separate parcels.
If you google parcel comparison or pallet network then there is a few. They should give you an instant quote on their website if you know roughly the total weight and how much of a pallet they are likely to take up.0 -

Sending parcels regularly to both UK and EU it has taken me some time and effort to find the best one, for me anyway. And much pain and anguish.
Dealing with a third party is best as the the service levels are much higher, by this I mean UPS/DHL/DPD are really geared up for business users that have major accounts and they are not to keen on dealing with Joe Public.
Anyway PHAROS PARCEL for me is the best one by far, pricing is definitely best and service levels very good. Any issues are dealt by real people.
Highly recommended. A++0 -
Thanks to MSE I used Gophr to pickup an urgent package today.
It was a large package delivered from Central London to Berkshire same day. These guys quoted half price of others. First courier turned up in van much too smal, though my description of goods was a little complex. Support guys were instant help, good be another courier with big van straight away. That guy drove like a rocket to pickup on time!!
You can chat and phone the couriers, and talk to support staff through app. Also there is live tracking of the courier and eta updates.

ParcelForce were used to deliver a wooden planter to me last week - they managed to deliver half of the order, next day but I was "tracking" the other half - on line and watched it end up at their East London depot (some 150 miles away from where it was supposed to be delivered) - I was told that it would be delayed - and it was finally delivered yesterday (a week late) - but the worst thing about this experience was a forged received signature - correct surname with a totally different initial to either my wifes or mine - why was this done - my wife had taken delivery of the item !!0

So did your wife not sign for the item?0 -

I've used collectmyparcel.com for ages. I've even had an iPad collected from France (after it was left on holiday) and returned to the UK.
All is very easy to use. The Hotel packaged it all up, I booked in via their website, e-mailed the Label to the Hotel and it was collected by DHL and delivered to my house in a few days.
I can't fault them at all.0
