I should also add (from reflecting upon the phone-calls) that I distinctly remember the helpful person on the other line saying that "because I had called back so promptly" when sent the texts, that that was one of the reasons why they would accept payment in Jan.

So, a word of advice to anybody who may ever make a mistake like this - don't ignore them. Call them back as soon as they send the text. I only read online of another couple of similar situations and in one of them the customer just sort of ignored ASDA - which worsened the situation, going as far as threatening emails from some official division or other.

Sorry, not being particularly bright at the moment - what exactly do you mean? :)

    What consumer show?

You don't appear to remember much?

    ..oh come on!

Sorry, guess I was at the back of the line when they were handing out those photographic memories everyone else has. I tend just to remember the important stuff. Like washing new clothes thoroughly before wearing them.

What said person means is that they have quoted your post.

Now you can go back into your origonal post and delete/alter it. But because it has now been quoted. There is proof of what was origonally posted. :D

Bearing in mind the time of year I'm kinda pleased Asda still delivered the shopping without cleared payment tbh. This could have easily been a poor family whose made a fatal mistake with their finances and the food being delivered being the difference between feeding the family or not.

This reflects very well on ASDA. It is generous of them to accept payment in January without a fightl.

This isn't necessarily the norm though. We've done online shopping with ASDA for quite some time now (a few years) and there have been occasions where my wife's CC limit was reached (due to fairly low limit, payment date and pending transactions just tipping it over) - when this has happened the shopping hasn't been delivered if we haven't been able to contact them to arrange alternative payment.

(They have usually sent a text, but my wife won't always see it until too late as she works in a hospital and the phone must be switched off where she works).

/Other side of the coin. :)

Why would I do that when I fully intend to pay and ASDA has whole-heartedly and officially agreed. I even went as far ("pushing it now") to ask if I could resubstitute about 4 substitutes and they said that that's perfectly fine, that I can walk into any store (there's one a few miles away).

Because you owe them money you haven't got?

Any shop that did this for me would have my loyal custom - not me then saying I would shop elsewhere:p

I read this last night, and wondered why someone would order shopping that they couldn't pay for. I do mine with Tescos weekly, and OH takes it in on a Weds morning as I'm normally not about.

You need to always ensure that there are funds in the account.

This is also my opinion. It's a bill that needs to be paid, however IMO by allowing until January, they're doing you a huge favour.
