Asda delivered; insufficient funds - what will they do?

I certainly hope that they do not put food or drink items sealed or not back on the shelf once they have gone past the till area.I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0

Well I can't think why else they would have offered to replace my Plain flour with Self Raising!
Having said that, it never occurred to me to take the 'wrong' pack back for that very reason!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
Thank you Honey Bear0 -
Tip for you from somebody who has made the same mistake often:D
Add 1oz of baking powder to 1lb of plain flour to make it self raising.
Well worth having some baking powder at hand.I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0 -

As I said earlier, had this been Tesco, I wouldn't have even got my shopping. It would have been a zero-tolerance "we weren't able to take the full amount, therefore no delivery".
Although it's possible I'm in a trial which Tesco are running and this isn't normal, I'm charged a small sum (it's always about a pound or so) to check the card is valid, and they no longer take the full amount in pre-authorisation as they used to.
I personally prefer it that way, it may well be that they only do this for longer-term customers, and they're prepared to wait for payment (or lose it) if a customer's payment doesn't go through. I can only imagine more people complain to supermarkets that they don't get the shopping they were hoping for than complain that they do.0 -

You have obviously never worked in a shop then.
The same goes for all the clothes people return, which aren't faulty, shoes, socks etc. Think the only thing is undies and they should only take them back if faulty.
Has that set you into a panic now?0 -
I wash clothes before I wear them and have taken clothes back myself but we were talking about edible items that could be contaminated by any psycho out there.I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0

Nope. Was featured on a consumer show that a lot of shops take the underwear back and put it straight back on the hanger/shelf for some unsuspecting person to buy, even when the seal has been removed or there wasnt one.
Cant remember which stores they did it in or which program it was. Can just remember thinking i'm bloody glad i wash everything before i use it.
One of my friends purchased jeans from asda and they had to return them........there were "crusty" (the word they used) blood stains on the inside. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

What consumer show?
You don't appear to remember much?
..oh come on!0 -
I should also add (from reflecting upon the phone-calls) that I distinctly remember the helpful person on the other line saying that "because I had called back so promptly" when sent the texts, that that was one of the reasons why they would accept payment in Jan.
So, a word of advice to anybody who may ever make a mistake like this - don't ignore them. Call them back as soon as they send the text. I only read online of another couple of similar situations and in one of them the customer just sort of ignored ASDA - which worsened the situation, going as far as threatening emails from some official division or other.0 -
That's rather churlish of you, given that Asda delivered and aren't making a fuss that they haven't been paid.
I would have collected as much of the shopping as could have reasonably been resold (ie tinned, sealed goods) and returned it to the store, myself.
I once accidentally bought plain flour when I wanted self-raising, from Asda, and went back for the self-raising. I mentioned this to the SA as I was paying and she said they would have exchanged it, had I returned it!
Why would I do that when I fully intend to pay and ASDA has whole-heartedly and officially agreed. I even went as far ("pushing it now") to ask if I could resubstitute about 4 substitutes and they said that that's perfectly fine, that I can walk into any store (there's one a few miles away).0
