  • I had an Allegro. Doing 60 down a country lane when the steering rack broke. Hit a bank, flew up in the air, bounced off the bank and parked neatly at the side of the road facing the opposite way. Great car for parking.....

    I had an Allegro for a few days whilst my Marina was being repaired.
    I had to do the pedal dance to stop it cutting out at lights and if I cornered too quickly the sills scraped the ground.
    My FIL almost bought a Maestro but decided on a Lada Riva in the end :o

    Gran had the 2.0 Vanden Plas Montego, that didn't talk. The Renault 25 did though. Not the greatest synthesised speech though!

    I knew I wasn't imagining it. It's the future.....

    Good Buy! :beer::beer:

    I had a nearly new Volvo 360 that was sqished by a lorry who's driver was reading his delivery sheet instad of watching the road.

    One minute I was sitting at the lights waiting for them to change the next I'm lying on my back wondering why and why was there a radio on my chest? The impact had snapped the seat, the radio had flown out of the dash, hit me on the chin and laid me out!

    While the insurance companies were fighting over the details I bought a Montego estate from the auction, a 2.0 Auto. It was the first estate I ever owned and I can't tell you how useful it was to have a van with windows.

    It didn't cost much but was a fantastic car, so much so that when the insurance money came through I sold it through the local paper for a bit more than I paid and went back to the auction and bought a newer one. The first was that ubiquitous dog t*rd brown while the second one was one of the two tone ones, red on top with grey on he bottom.:cool:

    I kept it years and it was never any trouble at all. :T

    All the best with your new car, I'm a little bit envious!

    The MG Maestro had a pair of downdraught Weber's on it, which, with the manifold, would fit straight onto a Citroen AX with no mods. The trouble was they were like hen's teeth.

    I did exactly that to my autograss car.
    That's my mutt in the picture above.

    "....The first was that ubiquitous dog t*rd brown"

    My first Montego was a sort of 'diarrhea' colour, optimistically called Champagne. The next was a better (but not much better) Battleship Grey colour which 3 of the children learnt to drive on. My wife shunted someone and knocked the grill out so I made some false teeth out of UPVC sheet and put that in instead!
    I actually made a profit on the second one because it was written off by insurance twice, each time paying out, but I kept the car and repaired it myself.
