Until a few years ago I had a Volvo 1800 ES auto, now I see there are only 3 left in the country. Mine has gone, chap bought it and restored it and it is now in Spain. You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

Thanks for the positive responses! For those interested it was this one. It's got a couple of knocks but seems to run well enough and I have all the old MOTs to prove the mileage - it's done just 2.5k in the last 16 years.
The rear wiper did fall off on the way to the station this morning but it went back on again without issue
Last car I bought on a whim was an XJS 5.3. I have a feeling this one will work out better. Can I help?0 -

Good luck with the Maestro. You Hipster!
Is it one of those fancy schmancy MGs?
No, it's a 1.6LX Automatic :cool:Can I help?0 -
I used to like the Montego's and Maestro's. Cheap runabouts.
1st Maestro was a 1300cc one Ancient A series engine. The unreliable bit was the automatic choke. Dumped that and put a complete carb on off a 1300cc Morris Ital
Needed a cheap pocket car quickly. Found a Montego estate 1.6 £295.
Started and run as sweetly. Rusty tailgate seemed to be its only problem.
Bought a service kit and belt. Took the cover off belt looked new so didnt bother.
I dont remember ever servicing it after that. In fact i dont remember ever doing or replacing anything ..
Always started always went and always stopped.
I wouldnt say no to a MG Turbo Maestro though. Last time I saw one for sale it was £12,999 ?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I did see one of the rare R reg ones a few weeks ago. These were the ones converted back to right hand drive, a built from kits.0

Didn't the Vanden Plas have a talking dashboard?0

* as a noob, I can't even quote a post with a link to the Autotrader advert *
That's quite an awesome find, and still damned near brand new. I am quite jealous actually
Don't actually use it, fix the damage, replace the hubcap, and pack it away in cotton wool. That's already a classic.0 -
certain parts are getting hard to find - but there's a good online club/forum http://www.maestro.org.uk/
and some v helpful and knowledgable peeps on there....The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -

Gran had the 2.0 Vanden Plas Montego, that didn't talk. The Renault 25 did though. Not the greatest synthesised speech though! What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
