The pioneering Maestro! Good to see that talking cars with archaic stepper-motor "assisted" SU carbs and vague old VW gearboxes are now entering cherished status.

Yes, they tried to reinvent the wheel (quartic steering wheel) and made it square, pretty typical of our motor industry in those days. They always seemed to have really bad, brown paint jobs and lots of rust.

Don't forget to drip some oil into the SU carburettor dashpot. I wonder if that's what the stepper motor comment was about.

When I read your post it got me thinking... when was the last time I saw a Maestro on the road? Still pondering that... probably not for years rather than months... how the heck did you find one?

353 is (or would be) the number of model variants

But there's some kind of glitch and actually there are about 50 Austin MG and Rover models and the rest in that search result are Renault Master

So you'd have to count them up from each line

It might be 353, but that would be a coincidence

    edit: about 1250

I had two Montegos; loved 'em.
Make sure you fit a quality steering lock as the old cars are a honeypot for thieves and joyriders due to the lack of an immobiliser. I used a StopLock; heavy but thatcham 3 approved.

still a better guide than nothing.

I looked at some of the Montego models too. Down to 12 MG Turbos. Some have only one car still taxed and presumably running.
