New to all this and my 1st mortgage payment doesn't go out to the 28th so first overpayment probably won't be until June.

Target will be £4500 think that will be a challenge but will give it my best shot!!!

I will just have to keep reading everyones great tips for suggestions.

    Thanks VoucherMan!
Has been a brilliant day, went to bed this morning after work, and when I got up my OH had left an envelope on my pillow for me, an old friend I haven't seen in years had come by but didn't want to wake me, she's only paid me back the 5 and half grand I loaned her years and years ago!!!!! Genuinely thought I'd never see it or her again, and had written it off, but here it is :j Have phoned oxendales and paid them off via laser and although I can't physically pay remainder off credit card until Monday, have updated my sig and estimated what my balance will be after payment. Am so sooo happy just had to share with someone :T Pity I've got to go back to bed before work now, but it's gonna be a long night if I don't get some shuteye

couldn't sleep, too happy :j Lent her the money to help her and her kids out of a very bad situation a good ten years ago, and tbh I kind of thought at the time she'd never be in a place where she could realistically pay me back, but we were doing really well then and just wanted her safe. the only thing I regretted was that she distanced herself after a while (suppose it could have been embarassment she couldn't pay back). It's brilliant, am so happy, credit card won't be as much of a chore now

So it's also lovely that she is now in a position that she can pay you back :T

Definitely, text her that night to say hi and thanks, but just got a quick text back, hoping we'll catch up soon, but don't want to force it. Have been to bank and paid up the cc, didn't keep any back for op cos of the interest I'm paying on catalogue and cc, when cc is paid off, am saving the money I pay that to build up an emergency fund. Will update my sig properly when I get the next cc bill in. But at least the light at the end of the tunnel is a bit brighter now. Haven't got my monthly wage through yet (work two jobs, the weekly wage we live on and pay all bills through, the monthly one we use most of it for the mortgage), am planning to use all of it this month for mortgage, so will hopefully have something to report on op soon

  • That's lovely that she has paid you back, I bet it's a weight off her mind as well.

Aye it's brilliant, and I'm sure she's relieved too, but we never asked her for any of it back at any stage, she went through a lot and didn't want to make her feel worse, but so relieved to get it. Any how, phoned in my monthly mortgage payment and only managed an op this month of €67.23, but we're concentrating more on the credit card bill as this is costing us more interest, once that's out of the way, we'll get stuck in properly!

Finally made another op for the year (though I'm still a long way behind my target), of £500 for May. Hopefully when I go back to work (boo), I'll be able to start making some more op's, though having just got the first bill from the nursery, I don't think the ops are going to be very large sadly.
Good to see how well everyones doing, and thanks for the updates Voucherman

    Mortgage-free Glee!
a colleague at work has just got me thinking about my mortgage. i said i was going to pay it off next month (11K left to go) to give us the opportunity for my husband to think about leaving work to retrain. She said why didnt i keep it but extend the term in case I wanted to remortgage in the future as you get better rates as an existing customers. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
