Well done everyone :jA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Year end target achieved at the end of last month.
Mortgage free as from this morning.
Just wanted to say a "big thank you" to everyone on this forum, whom without your inspiration, I would not have achieved it so early.
During the week I will update my details on the mortgage free roll of honour.
I shouldn't have any regrets but in hindsight I should have spent more on having fun and other things, so please nobody feel as if you have let yourselves down, if you have spent money on yourself or family or home.
I have gone without a holiday in over 6 years, proper home furnishings being renewed, I have walked to work (over an hour in total) for the past year in some pretty dreadful weather rather than buy a car, if I have wanted a pint, its been wetherspoons on a cheap Monday night.
Too frugal at times, my only over exuberance being Sky TV but even that was haggled down to £24.50 a month for movies/sport and HD for a year.
I am pleased to be mortgage free again for the second time in just over 7 years and I can hopefully start spending money again on us or the home. We won't move ever again, I don't think, as I don't want another mortgage.
The biggest benefit, not just the interest saved or the fact that my wife would have still had to make payments in retirement, instead she is in her early fifties and free of that burden, is the fact is that I don't have to be a slave to working as many hours as possible.
Keep up the good work everyone, a £10 overpayment can be as sweet as a £1000 overpayment and remember, have fun during your journey. You will definitely eventually, achieve your goal.0 -

Yay!! Well done, NpowerUser!
Really pleased for you!
And wise words too. Life is too short, and none of us know what is going to come round the corner, so it is good to get a balance, if you can and want to.
But I'm sure your walk to work will be all the sweeter this morning for being mortgage free.
Enjoy it. You deserve it!
