hello....... Southportguy booking in!
Can you register £8K against OP's
good month for me, and hoping I can keep this momentum up over the following months to reach my target of lowering mortgage to under 50K
which would be fantastic as it started at 93K at the start of the yr.
Must admit a bit of a struggle as sooooo could easily divert overpayments towards a newer car and a few bits for the house.
But for now still plodding on.

So sorry to hear your news LavenderBees - losing your dad is hard enough, yet alone coping with what's happening with your mum as well. As several have already said, it's not a problem if you've fallen off the MS wagon for a while, you just have to do what you can, when you can.......
Voucherman please can you put me down for £325 for September please - not as good as I'd hoped but better than I thought I'd do - #111.
And good luck to everyone on their MFW journey - is it just me or does it get harder to stay motivated for the big payments towards the end of the year?#21 Save £12k in 2025 £16977.35/£20000

Nope - it's not just you. I feel I always start off pretty well, and then fall away as the year goes on, not sure why really. Well, I suspect I'm not budgeting well enough i.e. I moved here in a November so it feels lots of bills become due then like buildings & contents insurance, and TV licence, so I should save the payments for these kinds of bills across 12 mths...I always mean to but never quite manage it.....and I also suspect more people are out and about more in summer, too, so that puts an extra strain on the finances. Ah well...
Again, everyone, thank you for your kind words. It's been a tough old time so to know you understand whether you've been through similar OR just because you're all so bloomin lovely, means a lot to me.
I've got garden centre vouchers for £27.50 waiting to be printed off when I get back to work on Monday (am too tight to buy ink for my home printer), so am NOT going to have my planned trip there tomorrow. No, I'm not....oh no, I'm not :rotfl:0 -

It feels especially never ending when your annual mortgage statement is wrong for the second year running! I am going to post for advice later so I can work it out for myself. I wrote to them last year and it was amended but the reply was nippy so want to have more info at my fingertips this time. I was so looking forward to my statement this year as I/we have really worked hard in paying extra.0

It does seem some months are worse than others, but blacktaxi is right: treat each month or even week on its own. Little fights win big battles!
Impressed Southportguy, that's some going in a year!
Dithering Doormouse (great UN btw!), do you have 'so many pots' for a reason? We tried that route, but have embraced simplicity in recent months, not just in finances either. It really is freedom!:D0 -
Oh LB I am so sorry to hear your sad news
What a terrible time you have been having. I do hope your Mum is in a nice home and being extra well looked after. It must be so hard for you.
You are an absolute inspiration on this thread and everyone is right in saying sometimes we just have to spend! Every so often I think about packing in this OP business altogether but it is people like you and the other lovely people on here who keep me going. I am thinking though of having two OP free months a year though just to make holidays and that awful event in December more bearable!
Will be thinking of you and hoping your friends everywhere are looking after you too. xMFW - number 11

Thank you, Sweetheart! So lovely of you. Mam is in a really good CH - exceptionally lovely staff. I am so relieved, I cannot tell you!
But you know, if anything, this year has taught me that we all need a balance somehow. If I'd known how things were going to pan out, I'd have lifted my savings and run away to the other side of the world (or not got out of bed at all). Good thing we don't know what is ahead of us. BUT it does mean that we should make sure we treasure each day and live. Simple things mean a lot, but occasionally, a wee splurge doesn't harm either.
I know we all know this but I suspect we're all in danger of forgetting. After all, it's so difficult just to get through every day life, isn't it? So we just keep on keeping on, and sometimes lose sight of what is really important. I was lucky in that I had Dad stay with me for about 5 weeks, and that, combined with helping him help Mam, meant we were so close and I will treasure every single memory for ever.
Taking time to smell the roses is what my GP recommended to me as a remedy to my heartache, and I feel so much better for it now. It cost a wee bit, but it was important for my emotional well being so well worth it.
It's a shame it's taken such a drastic year to remind me of what is important. That's my only regret. I hope not to lose sight of this life lesson. And still pay off my mortgage, of course :rotfl:
So, my advice for what it's worth, is take your 2 months off from saving each year and enjoy your holidays. This is what life is all about. And if that means you are saving 10 mths of the year, well, that's fab, isn't it! :T
