Carphone Warehouse Monthly Contract
My new mobile was delivered today from Carphone Warehouse. It's Orange pay monthly & is as far as I can tell all set up. I'm slightly confused as to what happens next- the only other contract mobile I had came direct from Orange so that was easy. Should I now contact Orange or do I need to contact Carphone Warehouse? I have no idea when the contract starts or when my first bill will arrive & I'm concerned that any texts/data/calls I make now won't be inclusive to my plan if it hasn't started & I'll have a crazy high first bill.

You should get some letters from orange, and you'll be able to set up an online account to view bill, etc...
Once you've activated your sim and started using the phone you will be within your allowance, but if you're unsure call orange0 -
Make a list of questions (such as statement dates, extra charges - e.g. turn off message delivery reports on your phone or you'll get charged 1p each) and call ORANGE on 150 from the phone.
Don't forget to cancel the insurance AND gadget helpline if you didn't at the point of sale or you'll get stung for that. The sim is already activated. For the period up to the first statement and bundle date you'll only get a pro rata allowance, so don't exceed it. Set up the phone immediately to tell you how many minutes etc you've used each month (if a smartphone you'll have to download an app) AND set a sim lock code (the default on the sim with Orange is 1111 until you change it - I wouldn't bother checking the default code with Orange because usually they won't even know what you're talking about) AND a phone lock - too many people don't do either but it protects you if the phone or sim is lost or stolen.0 -

I asssume you mean cancel the Gekk Squad cover? Far be it for you to tell someone to cancel something they might want or need.
You can of course calim on house insurance but your excess might be higher and your premium goes up too. Now, how can you get stung for something you might want?0 -
If you advise people to waste money on insurance be my guest. Perhaps instead of helping someone I should let them join the LONG queue of unhappy people who didn't even realise they'd signed up to a waste of money "service" - two, in fact - and end up paying for something they neither want nor need. Of course, if you're as careless as you sound I am sure you may need insurance and don't mind paying for an inferior one you didn't even know you had. But, then, most people aren't like you.0

It amazes me that two people both aiming to help the OP start a back and forth of pointless digs.
The simple answer would have just been to read the information that came with the phone. Check the terms you agreed to and clue yourself up with the contract length, your upgrade date and cancellation rights/notice.
At no point has the OP suggested they accepted or needed/didn't want insurance.0 -
Thanks for the answers. I had read the info but nothing explains when the contract starts or if Carphone Warehouse will sort the contract with Orange or if I'm supposed to sort it myself & I'd read about people getting caught out by this.
I didn't get the Geek Squad thing either btw!0 -
If you follow what I said you wouldn't need to keep asking. Call orange.0

You could just text Bundles to 150 and it will tell you.0

@mobilejunkie:
Excuse me but my 2nd post was in response to what others had said, so I wasn't asking again just giving further explanation to the original post.
Just to be clear- this reply is not me asking again. Apologies for having confused you.0
