Question for Humax experts.

Thinking of getting one and leaving Sky. The main problem I have with Sky is that when I go away I cannot set the box to record more than a week in advance! OK I can if the series has already started but not if a series or program starts more than a week away!
So can a Humax box record a series starting more than a week away?

  • I have a humax-foxsat-hdr and yes you can set manual recordings , and the box can be made to do much more eg sharing recordings on your local/www network , a browser remote control , etc etc look at http://www.avforums.com/forums/freesat/1661195-media-file-server-bundle-foxsat-hdr-release-4-0-part-3-a.html and other posts on the forum

ps you can set sky to record using via the internet if you are away

Thanks all, problem is that when I am away I spend most of my time in Rural France, no mobile signal and no ADSL, only dialup.
The other thing is that I have Freesat from Sky and with that I don't think you can set th recording via internet.
So, debitcardmayhem are you saying I can definitely set a Humax box to record a week or two in advance?

Do you own a property there?

If yes, then have you considered installing a satellite dish and bringing your Sky box with you?

I just put something in our Humax schedule for xmas day. You need the channel, time to start recording and time to end.

I am by no means a Humax expert, we have only been using our box for a couple of weeks so still getting used to it but compared to sky+ Humax is absolutely pants!

I kind of expected the humax to work the same as the sky but I'm sure sky have patented the way the box and remote work so that no-one else can have a system that works so easily as theirs :D
As I said though, we are getting used to it but IMO it will never be as easy as sky to use.

It's probably just because you're used to the sky+ box. For instance, I've been using a foxsat for three years and when I tried using a sky+ box I hated it. The remote felt like a toy, the menus were not at all intuitive, and whoever decided that recordings need to be under the schedule menu (i think it was there anyway) needs to be shot.

But that's because I'm used to how the humax works (and how most other PVRs work, seeing as I sell them) but because sky does it differently, it's skewed from my frame of reference.

Thanks for all the replies, we have an old Sky+ box in France but use it without a card so cannot record on it, just watch live programs which is fine as we set the UK Sky+ box to record things whilst we are away.
However, as I said it is a problem not being able to record things more than a week away so I am thinking of replacing it with a Humax.

Why don't you just take your box and card with you?
