Question regarding my Sky account (cancelling)

I just got off the phone with Sky, man what a faff that was...
My Sky contract is due to run out this month, or so I thought. I ordered a Sky package last December ready for our new TV we got ourselves for Christmas, we got a phone line and broadband with it. After speaking to the guy today he says that the phone line runs out in 2 weeks but the TV and broadband runs out on the 13th January, can somebody explain to me how the hell that works out? It's supposed to be a 12 month contract is it not? Not 12 months and 2 weeks.
This will mean I have paid for 13 months, December to December...
Anyway I said i'd be calling back on the 13th to give my 1 month notice to cancel all 3 services. After trying to find out why I was leaving and trying to offer me better deals he finally gave up and let me go.
Ok so my next question, when will my last payment be taken? I assume we pay in arrears? So it'll be around December 13th? (still not sure about this Dec/Jan thing)
Do we get to keep the Sky box? When I was with Virgin Media they came and took the box away after we cancelled.
I want to have the new setup in place for when I get cut off from Sky but I don't want to pay for 2 packages in 1 month.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.,

Yes, because of the 31 days notice required, Sky contracts are never 12 months - they're 13.
Sky TV, line rental and broadband rental are charged in advance. Any chargeable calls you make are (obviously) charged in arrears.
The Sky box was yours from day 1 but, as soon as your subscription ends, it will become a receiver only (i.e. no pause live TV, not recording and no playback - even of previously recorded programmes). Leave the card in though - it will continue to regionalise the PSB channels and to decrypt a few channels that are 'soft encrypted'.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Surely this should be made clear?
Says on the website:12 month contract and standard installation within two weeks.
You'd think the 31 days notice could be given on the 11th month.
Thanks for the response however.0 -

I'll check this when I get home and get back to you.0 -

Right then. Each subscription lasts for a minimum of 12 months (the Minimum Term) from the first date we enable your Box to receive your chosen Service(s) (usually when you first insert your Viewing Card into the Box),To ensure your contract is cancelled at the end of the 12th month, give notice to Sky on the first day of the 12th month. Be aware, I'm now told that Sky (most unhelpfully) will not accept notice to cancel until after the 11th month! So, if Sky insists on the 31 day notice period and the twelfth month has less than 31 days, Sky make it impossible to keep the minimum term to 12 months.
It would seem you don't know what it says...
After speaking to Sky, it turns out that my subscription started from when I inserted my card, not when I ordered the service (which was a few weeks after I set up the account) Make sense now I think of it, otherwise your paying for something you're not getting.
So it is indeed 12 months, NOT 13 months, not sure where you got that info from, making stuff up to try and sound like you're up to date with things no doubt. So I suggest you go and look at your T&C's, then come back to me with what it says because it seems you're talking a load of rubbish.
I'll eagerly await this CLEAR definition you stated.0 -
