J5 -> M42 is indeed the Warwickshire HADECS section I mention above, so my answer there applies, but only if the signs had a red circle around them. If they did not have a red circle then you will not get any sort of ticket in the post for an indicated 78mph.
I didn't know they were on the M6 too, thought they were just for the M42. OP, in all liklehood, unless you actually saw a flash, I very much doubt you'll have been caught speeding. The primary use of this system isn't speed enforcement, it's traffic management. I use to go along the M42 stretch daily for years and very rarely saw the cameras flash and constantly saw drivers speeding passed at 80 and above.

The M6 has HADECS further north too. They start around junction 6 up to, and just beyond junction 10.

Incidentally, you can see which gantries have cameras. The M42 style ones have flash pods that are clearly visible from a good few hundred yards away; more than enough time for both of my cars to engine brake in 5th to non-enforcement speeds ;).

    Careful relying on this.

The M42 ones have camera housings on both sides of the gantry so that if you look on the opposite side of the road you can see a gantry with a camera housing and you know there is one on your side too.

The M6 ones have a number of gantries where there are only housings on one side.

Note that not all camera housings actually contain a camera, but I wouldn't recommend taking chances with that one.

There are some "interesting" goings on with the speed cameras on the M42/M6 Toll and the CPS seem to have been dropping a large number of cases recently. No official word on the reasons yet AFAIK but the rumours seem to be that the cameras may have been "enforcing" a reduced limit while the variable speed limit signs were not operating.

I came on at J5 (Castle vale/Birmingham) and was heading east towards Coventry. Was between J5 & M42 exit when I think I was speeding.

So why didn't you slow down?

Like I said in the original post. I was just keeping up with traffic, I didn't expect to be hitting those kind of speeds. It's done now so no point in worrying about it.
