No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries in December

Right ladies, my UU total for the year is 90 products! I am delighted with this, and although to some people who manage to UU consinderably more than 100 products, I think only about 2 of mine were samples/travel sizes and the rest were full sizes, so I think that's a great UU rate!
For next year I am going to be ruthless and stop myself saying 'This doesn't count as an IN as I will use it' or something similar: this is sometimes fair, but as for the case of the Bio Oil I bought on BOGOF, it's true, but it will take me AGES to get onto the second one, so the products still need room in my toiletries cupboard!
And onwards to the January 2013 (!) thread! Please call me 'Pickle'
No More Buying Books: ???
No More Buying DVDs: ???
NMB Toiletries ??? and I've gone back for my Masters at the University of Use Ups!

Also used my best purchase of the year - my emjoy micro pedi. Never going to need to waste money on foot scrubs again (which are pretty ineffectual by comparison) and much better than using a foot file / pedi egg etc, less effort too.
Thanks for the recommendation, I fancy one of these but didn't know whether they'd actually be effective, might treat myself to one in the New Year - agree foot scrubs aren't terribly effective on tough heels etc0 -
Last UU (as far I as can see) for the year is No. 7 Blissful Body Wash - WBA - very nice and a little goes a long way - will buy again if I can get it at a decent price i.e. with a £5 voucher, but not for about six months as I've plenty of shower gel etc at the moment (those 750ml TBS pump dispensers are annoying me already, definitely super LHJ, what was I thinking?!).
I've also three IN - needed deo as none in stash and about to run out plus wanted to get it now so I can have a good stab at doing Jan - Mar IN free - Sure is my HG and is half price in Boots at the moment so on the basis of all of the above I thought getting three was fairly restrained! So Clear Pure Crystal, Clear Aqua Crystal and Nutritive Skincare (usually get clear pure but only one left on the shelf and they're all good).
That takes my UU for Dec to 11 and IN to a staggering 58..... OopsIn my defence that's mainly due to gifts/Christmas Sales and I should be very well stocked up for the first part of 2013 - vast majority including the gifted are products I love and will definitely use. Its the first month since I've done the challenge for the past year that my IN have outweighed the UU so I'm not doing too badly. I do take the challenge seriously most of the time :rotfl:

Thanks for those reassurances on the beauty boxes post I made earlier this year, I feel a better now...! I've noticed there has been less discussion on the BBoxes on here.
I like the idea of the boxes but know that they would be useless for me, as there's so much that I don't use.
I must check what cleaning stuff I have. With finances being tighter I had to stop using my cleaner. I've done OK over Christmas in keeping the place reasonably clean and tidy and with losing weight, cleaning is less of a struggle.
My cleaner preferred certain brands, so there's a lot of stuff sat under the kitchen sink that hasn't been used as much.
My final UU - Olay 100ml Anti Wrinkle Classic Daily Moisture Fluid, SPF 20.
This had to wait 18 months unopened to be used -it was a Christmas 2010 gift - I prefer creams and had been given those, then I had freebies and trial products to use. Luckily it was still fine.
WIB? It's lasted AGES, so is very MSE, but is a little light for me, now. Once my current stash is used up, I'll probably return to my old favourite, the Double Action Day Cream.
I've just Googled the lotion and I think it's been changed, anyway - I've had it that long! Oops!Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
December total 54 ins (42 of which are gifted ins ) 39 outs (30 uu 6ga and 3 ta). Net increase of 15 products. By the way DH has been helping with some of the uu which is why they are so high.0

A UU to report:- Charles Worthington Takeaways Full Volume Shampoo 75ml. WBA but think it may possibly have been discontinued. I got this extremely cheaply in Co-op. I did get another one as well which will be kept for trips away as it's such a handy size. I do actually wish I had got more as it was so cheap and I don't have a stash of shampoo/conditioner.
I'm back to my HG of Herbal Essences volumising shampoo for the foreseeable future.
I've also just taken the scissors to a S&G Hand Food hand cream. Found the dregs of this lurking in my bedroom and surprisingly it doesn't seem to have gone off. My hands are very dry lately so will probably use it up within the next day or two. Not sure whether to do mad with it so I can put it down for a December UU or wait until tomorrow so I can start the New Year feeling virtuous.
Also wanted to echo what others have said about how lovely people on this thread are. It's a safe haven on MSE when you see how horrible some people can be out there on the dark side!3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
Silly question for people who go to lush it says on the full sized tubs that you can return them and exchange for a face mask, but what about the spray bottles and sample tubs?
I seem to have kicked my Lush habit as I haven't bought anything from them for ages. I never managed to get a free face mask either. I always assumed that it was just the full sized tubs but no harm in asking. Seems a bit cheeky to try to get a freebie in exchange for packaging off sample tubs - which are presumably also freebies - but nothing ventured, nothing gained! Presumably part of the idea of returning the containers is so that they can be recycled, which helps to add to their 'green' image so it does make sense for sample tubs and spray bottles to be returned to them.
I've never tried any of their face masks but my skin is pretty much beyond redemption anyway, especially at the moment. :eek:3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
I'm feeling a little embarrassed at the moment, decided not to wear contacts today to rest my eyes. Put makeup on without contacts for the 1st time ever and thought it looked ok. When to town to pick up meat for tomorrow, thought people were giving me odd looks, but ignored it. When I got home and looked in the mirror had stripes on on cheek.
Have a great new year everyone one.
maybe they thought you were wearing camouflage - could start a whole new trend. :rotfl:3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

Oh no - they had one of these as an Amazon hot deal the other day and I passed it by as I wasn't sure how good it would be. I will definately keep an eye out now as I have decided "power tools" are the way to go - I am loving my Clarisonic I received for Christmas. My skin has never felt so soft.mcculloch29 wrote: »I know I upset some of you earlier this year by commenting that the No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries focus sometimes got lost when there was a lot of chatter about what had been bought and not much mention of not buying! I did single out the beauty boxes in particular.
I upset several 'thread mates' whose posts I really value; I feel I would get on with them if we ever met.
I've got to apologise in part for that.
It was hypocritical of me.
I don't need, in theory, to ever buy a fiction book again, but I probably will, rather than get one from the library. I do need to buy non-fiction books every so often to keep up with work related things. I buy more non fiction that is related to my interests than I do fiction, and really enjoy them. I love books, full stop.
Only you as an individual can truly know why you buy things and if the purchase really, honestly, truly gives you lasting pleasure and adds to your life rather than subtracting from it, then it isn't unnecessary.
I don't want to make anyone feel guilty about enjoying something.
I feel a bit bad about that, I wish I'd given it more thought and expressed it more sensitively at the time.
No news on my ill friend - will ring tomorrow. Thanks for your thoughts for her.
Don't feel bad - it is good to have a reminder about why we are here. As a librarian though I willabout the fact you keep buying books....
I hope the news is better about your friend tomorrow. Take care.0 -
Last few UUs to report this year:
Aveeno Serum - what a waste of money, lasted about 2 weeks and that was with using a hat pin to push it up from the inside for the last week. Rubbish.
Saaf Body oil sample - nice but felt very greasy at first. WNB either again.
INs - 6 x 500ml Oral B mouthwash (alcohol free) as it is £1 in Tesco and they didn't have it yesterday - great price so stocked up.My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |
