O/S Daily Friday 30 November

Options
Friday 30th November Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 30th November 2012. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning. Haven't joined in on here for ages, but after the 'Annoyed ' thread, feel like joining the community again.
DH off today, so will be joining us for dinner when the kids come in from school. Need to do a list pf the freezer and cupboards and do a proper menu. Lots of food in the house but no idea what to cook.
Need to clean my messy house too!
Ah well, just had a nice wee hour to myself, browsing this board, while watching Masterchef Australia (I loooooove that show!).
Must go and wake the kids for school, get the 'proper' coffee on for dh, start making lunches etc.
Have a good day guys and girls.

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Now getting light, light cloud and chilly here this morning. DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was pie, chips and beans for the menfolk, don't know what happened but when I got the pie out of the oven (it was one I'd frozen so was cooking from frozen) it wasn't cooked in the middle, so it had to go back into the oven - but the chips were cooked - so not one of my most successful dinners! It did give me chance to use my new kitchen thermometer (sp?) though, once I'd put the pie back in the oven and then felt it was cooked I checked with the thermometer (sp?) and it was then cooked. Then to top it all, DS2 turned the kitchen light on and blew the fuse in the entire downstairs lighting circuit, (a bulb blew in the kitchen and we think this blew the fuse as it went with a bit of pop) but fortunately we have a couple of lamps in the lounge so then I had to faff about finding the fuse wire, screwdriver and put the new wire in, rang FIL for advice but not to difficult - was only difficult because I was trying to do it in the half dark but pleased with myself that I managed to do it so I know for next time. DH is absolutely useless at anything like that! I had fish, jacket potato and salad. Will have to organise something for tonight, but I'll be heading to the SM this morning to do the food shopping, so will organise dinner then.

Was in a strange CBA mood yesterday, couldn't settle to anything, but went for a haircut and picked up a couple of bits from L**l that I needed then came home and did a few jobs on pc, made some telephone calls, did washing and drying - so have a pile of ironing to do, did however, do the housework, so today I will be, heading to the bank, then food shopping, home to crack on with washing, drying and ironing, will endeavour to do some baking/cooking too.

Going to friends for dinner tomorrow night, really looking forward to it as they are really good company and we always have loads of laughs - they have just got back from hols in Singapore so I'm sure they will have loads to talk about.

Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

    Morning :hello:

Welcome Arty, Fuddle and Rosie :hello:

Dad had his cast put on yesterday, they told him he could choose a colour so he's walking round with a bright red arm :D

Just remembered that mr tru has booked tomorrow off. Today's his normal day off so he'll be here for two days in a row. Can't cope with that :D

I've checked supplies, there's plenty of Christmas crackers, serviettes, candles, cards and party poppers. Would be handy if people told me what they want as gifts though. What's really annoying is, I know exactly what I want but no-one's asked me Roll_Eyes_Smiley_by_Mirz123.gif I need to get some Soap and Glory stuff, but the big set they do every year doesn't come out til two fridays before Christmas.

We've bought lots of chicken feed, the place we get it from is in the middle of nowhere and I always worry in the winter that we won't be able to get to it if the roads are really icy. I could go to Countrywide or similar but I prefer small and local. Plus if you have questions, they'll happily go into minute detail on everything. Chains just say 'oh give 'em this' and shove a tub of powder into your hand.

Most important job today - hang the advent calendars :D

Hope you've all warmed up your vocal chords, Christmas song list is ready :D

  • Good Morning All

Been MIA again for last few days - been off and out the house early.

Very frosty start here in Essex. OH is at home as is DD as no college today, she has to work later though. Plan is - get essential stuff done in office first thing this morning (hopefully anyway - waiting for someone to get back to me on something). Then will do some housework, deep cleaning front room ready for decorations. Finally the small ironing pile will get done.

Thinking fish pie for dinner, have all the bits in the freezer and its perfect cold weather food!

Have a great day all. (((hugs))) wherever needed.x
  • Good morning all, even though I have a day off from the school run I am still up at silly o'clock(6.00) still I have had a shower and breakfast and am just about to start to bake some cakes and cookies for the grandchildren.Plus my lovely brother Davy is arriving on a visit from France on Sunday for a few days I haven't seen him for nearly two years as he has been ill with heart problems, then Leukemia, but when I spoke to him in the week he sounds so much brighter and his old self again He loves HM lemon drizzle cake so thats on the agenda this morning plus a Victoria sponge which I make for my DGS Jack as its his favourite. His Mum Tess and her OH Simon are off tomorrow for a night out at a pub /restaraunt in Hythe for an overnight stay. They only get one night away from the tribe a year and its Tess's birthday present to her OH whom she adores ,and he is such a smashing Dad and helps her so much ,They are a real team when it comes to their family and Simon will cook and iron and wash up and never quibble about it.Tess works full time so she has a very busy full day so it will do them good to get away just the two of them.I shall be staying at their house with the boys and we have a 'naughty night' and I buy fish & chips and a few odds and ends and we all snuggle down on the sofa and watch t.v.usually until much later than they are allowed up (hence the naughty bit :):)).Then on Sunday I shall take the boys with me and we will go and see my eldest DD Shelley bearing birthday bits for her as she is 45,or as she put it 'halfway to 90':):)She is recovering slowly from her op. but is not a patient patient at all.
So a busy few days ahead of me.
Its very frosty and cold this morning and winter has got a grip on everything, the garden is white and the poor birds look decidedly fed up about it all.I shall put some nuts out for them and a flat dish of water.
Hope you all have a great day Last day of the month and a brand new one starts again tomorrow.I must get some stuff wrapped up and cards written as I had my first card yesterday.History club this afternoon and the French revolution
Take care everyone and keep wrapped up if you can

Morning everyone. Well my girls have sickness bug again. They only got back to school yesterday! Looks like we've just passed it around to each other. Going to wash bedding and anything else I can think of to eradicate the bugs.

Making mince and onion pie for tea. Well have broccoli and carrots and gravy. Wish me luck as pastry and I have a love hate relationship. I love eating it but hate making it.

Good call on the chicken feed ;) you can put those icy roads at the back of your mind.

    Hmmm lemon drizzle cake!

    Morning all,

Very frosty here, I need to pop into town but the station is a mile walk away and it's soo cold. Oh well will have warmed up by the time I get there!
Just spoke to my boys in Australia and they are very excited that we will be there in a few days. Especially my eldest who lives there permanently, he is so stressed with the wedding, can't wait to give him a big hug.
Thank you for all my David's birthday wishes yesterday, he said we will celebrate properly when you get here:D
Another evening visiting relatives tonight and out for a meal at our friends on Saturday, Sunday will be spent finalising the packing, I am hoping for a couple of restful days Monday and Tuesday before we fly.
Anyway off for a shower, have a good day all, keep warm x
