Provisional licence is a shame !!!!

I went to barclays, natwest, Hsbc, Halifax, lloyds today and no one is opening a bank account with the provisional licence instead asking for a full one.

Any Advice please.

Thanks

Halifax will accept a provisional photocard driving licence as one form of ID (http://www.halifax.co.uk/SecurityandPrivacy/pdf/personal-information-and-identity.pdf).

You will need another document as well, unless they can verify your identity online.

Refer Halifax to their own web site.

    http://www.halifax.co.uk/SecurityandPrivacy/acceptableID.asp

    Acceptable verification (customers aged 18+)

Current UK photo card driving licence (full or provisional), or old paper form licence if still in date (full only)

Does anyone know what the rationale is for insisting on a full licence?

Why does it matter to the bank whether or not you can pass a driving test? Getting a provisional licence requires your ID to be confirmed, while changing from provisional to full after passing a test is a trivial operation.

Don't they ask you to prove ID when taking the test?

A foreign license brings the same problems; especially as some won't accept a Russian or Georgian passport either (I have an EU license).

I only wanted to use it as a form of ID, as I couldn't find my British passport, and had separate address details on me!

Your provisional should be enough for this, since you should have had to prove your ID (send of passport, birth cert, etc) to get the provsional in the first place!

Well yes, ask them what alternatives they will accept. Not rocket science.

I had this problem too at Natwest, they either wanted a full driving licence of current passport. At the time I only had provisional licence and an out of date passport, but I did have my full birth certificate, they still wouldn't accept my ID even with that and utility bills.etc

But then I had to get a passport for a holiday, so used that.

Santander will accept a provisional driving licence on its own provided it bears your correct name, current address and it is in date. No further documentation required.
  • Lloyds Tsb accept provisional photo card licences - Nobody accepts the old paper one anymore.
