return to work after maternity leave!!

    And to preempt a post in a year or two's time if you return part time and then want to go back full time later the firm can tell you no.

    And no it wouldn't be constructive dismissal!

    Did you get enhanced maternity that has clawback clauses if you fail to return to work?


    how long do you think you want/need part time maybe a comitment to return to normal mon-fri hours quickly would help negotiations, as above get the return to full time as part of the agreement or as above you could be refused later.


    Did you not discuss returning to work before you went on maternity to get a feel for what might be acceptable.

    This is why a lot of women return for the absolute minimum period necessary to safeguard the money. It is their right but, from the company's point of view, it is a nightmare. It is a bit like forcing somebody to work their notice when they really don't want to be there.

    If you accept part-time you lose the *right* to full-time return; you can ask in the future but it's very possible the employer will refuse to up your hours again. Employers often lose the headcount in this situation so may not be allowed to up the hours in the future or might face the situation that if a full-time role becomes available they can hire someone new full-time but lose your part-time role so if a full-time role becomes available it's often not in an employers interests to allow a part-timer to extend their hours.

    I wonder what they do on saturdays that is so immovable? Every other satuday doesn't seem that bad and given dad home, avoids costly childcare?

    It is possible to come to a contractual agreement to protect this but I would guess the OP does not have a strong enough bargaining position to achieve this.

    paying back omp is no issue its not been spent, the issue is not wanting to loose a job becuase i cannot commit to working saturdays, when the position did not and still does not include weekend work. IE the lady covering my maternity leave does not work weekends. If it did would not have accepted it all those years ago when i started.
