Are other people now working Saturndays that weren't doing so before? If so, it sounds like a change of business model, and my understanding is that while on maternity leave, you should be treated exactly the same as everyone else if a substantive change happens. So, if it is now part of the job for everyone, I don't see how you can refuse.

Taking a year off work's made OP rather lazy. She now demands to work only two days a week lol or threatens to sue for constructive dismissal.

Yes giving birth and caring for a baby requires absolutely no effort at all!

I agree that OP is being unrealistic but definitely not lazy!

So the employer should go out their way to accommodate OP for another 5-10 years in addition to maternity leave? When many people are desperate for jobs and willing to full work time and overtime, OP being given the option to do part-time instead of full-time rare.

No. You have a right to return to your job, and you also have a right to request part-time working. They can refuse on business grounds.

In this case they're not refusing, but are offering you part-time hours (albeit not the ones you wanted). You don't have to take them up on their offer. In that case, you would simply continue in your normal hours.

why is not being able to work on a weekend unrealistic?

Its not particularly but as mentioned if the company can only offer you those hours to include a Sat as an alternate to your current hours then they do not have to find you hours within the working time. They are only obliged to provide you with your working conditions before leaving for maternity leave

After 12months maternity it changes so the rights to your old job are diluted.

AIUI if the old contract had provisions for weekend working they could change the return offer to include those if it was no longer parctical to offer the old hours.
