By paying them you have most likely lost your money, just like anyone who has sent money to a nigerian lottery. From the Plain Language Commission:

I'm afraid the chance of a refund from any PPC is very slim indeed.
Some people have managed to get redress from their bank via the fraud procedures but I think that may be more where credit cards were concerned - They usually needed to argue pretty strongly
Now you are aware of the scam, ensure everyone you know is informed about it - that way they lose more money in the long term.0 -
The only way i can possibly think that you could get anyhting back would be if they harass you for more money, then you will need to go primarily after the car park owner - but thats a slim shot, as youve voluntarily paid up, and you werent under duress ( ie your car wasnt clamped/blocked in etc)From the Plain Language Commission:

Can you go the POPLA route if you have already paid?
Interesting question! Not sure.
With a Council ticket you 'can' (if you are a bit dumb!) still appeal if you've paid at the discount - but then the full penalty comes into play and the person would be appealing about the difference I think - it's rare though. Generally it's understood that paying a PCN settles the amount due and ends the matter.
Things should be the same with POPLA, in theory. So there's no harm in this OP appealing, why not?
@ youwishbaby, make sure you say it's an appeal, you felt intimated into paying but the ticket was unjustified and you WANT to take the matter to POPLA unless you get a refund within 14 days. State the reasons for your appeal and that you require a POPLA verification code as you see nothing in the Protection of Freedoms Act, nor in the POPLA information, that says you cannot pay under duress but still appeal. You are still within the first 28 days after all!youwishbaby wrote: »Ive had a ticket from g24 yesterday and even though i was at work they said i was still parked.their cameras didnt pick me up leaving.unfortunately i paid them £77.50 as i was scared id get a bigger fine if i didnt.ive sent a dispute letter to them asking for a refund but where do i stand getting m

And I have to say you got the fake PCN YESTERDAY and yet rushed to pay it? Why oh why? Next time a random private firm alleges you owe them money at least Google them or take some days to discuss the matter with friends and think about it. You were very easily taken in, sorry to say. I do hope you'll learn to question things in life a bit more in future or you will be an absolute pushover for any doorstep rogue trader, phishing emailer...you name it, people fall for it.
Sorry, lecture over but I was astonished at the fact you just caved and paid someone just because they impersonated a parking ticket and threatened to put the amount up. The amount owed was NOTHING!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Who,s car park was it? If you want too pressurise for a refund go after the owners of the car park, rather then G24.
Recommended this action to someone on CAG once, she got refunded and a £40 voucher off Mothercare!0 -
Someone else has fallen for them hook line and sinkerFor everthing else there's mastercard.
For clampers there's Barclaycard.0 -
It was homebase carpark.if id have known or even heard of this problem i wouldnt have paid.im not dumb but was really worried id get the bigger fine.im not a weak or gullible person and im not goin to drop it until i get a refund.its the principle.popla say u can get a refund if uve paid. If ive neva heard of car park companies before why would i not believe it was genuine?the letter has a vat number, registered office etc and looks totally legit.im goin to try homebase today.thanks:(0

BTW, I thought you could only go to POPLA if you have a code from the PPC on a rejected appeal. If you've paid, surely you cannot then appeal, and hence no POPLA code.0
