Accident is costing me £3k

hey

so a van driver hit ME, and has accepted 100% liability for causing the accident. that's the good news.

now my car was worth 9k and has had 3.5k of repairs done on it, including putting it on a gig to bend it back into shape.

I've been told by the Seat dealer that the value of the car has dropped 3k due to it being accident damaged, even thou it's been repaired.

The insurance firm (the church on the hill) isn't interested in this 'loss' and the personal injury lawyers that I have with my policy don't seem too bothered either. I can get a letter from the Seat guy about the loss I'm suffering...

any advice on what I can do?

should I take the car back after the repair work has been carried out?

help!

    Take it back where?

Were you selling it at the time of the accident, or were you planning on selling it shortly.

Any cars going to be worth less if its badly damaged, despite a repair but it would also lose value with age.

If you were planning on keeping it another 5 years then it would have depreciated anyway to the point the accident might not make much difference.

I can't see you being able to claim it as a loss to be honest and effectively the car operates in the same way it did before so unless you were selling it you are no worse off because you will have the same use of it.

Was this counted as a cat c/d?

If just a normal claim would you need to tell anyone when selling? I've just part exed my Picasso and no one asked me if there had been any accidents in it

That's what I was thinking. If it hasn't been written off (which it doesn't appear to have been) and has been repaired properly there's no need to tell anyone.

As the other reply says, take it back where?

Do you mean you are wondering whether to accept the vehicle back?

If you think that the vehicle is worth £9000, you could have tried asking for that as a settlement, see what they would offer and whether you'd accept, and if so then they could decide what do with the car afterwards

But if the job has already started I'm not sure that's an option any more, as if they'd followed that route they might have decided they could make more out of it by selling it on before repair.

OP, as other have asked above, was the car written off? can you tell that it has been repaired just by looking at it? does it look/handle the same now as it did before the accident?
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.
  • i was wondering whether I should accept it back from the repairers...

we had the car up for sale in a local dealers, and they won't touch it now, as it's been in an accident, which, although not written off, is bad enough to have placed it on a jig to bend it back to shape.

the Seat dealer told me he wouldn't put his family in it, and we should refuse to have it back...

no, it wasn't written off - not cat c/d, so it's not listed on that database, I'm not not happy with withholding information when selling the car in the near future..

So your concern is based upon an opinion by a car dealer ?
Not sure why you asked their opinion,
presumably the car is safe, the garage have a responsibility to ensure that, your insurance company is not going to put you back in a car that's unsafe. Have you asked the repairing garage about structural integrity and safety of the car?

Sorry OP but you sound like you are after a new car. What exactly do you want the insurance company to do? they have had your car repaired and you are now in the same position you were in pre accident.
How do you know that there wernt any repairs done to the car previous to you owning it? some cars are even repaired before they leave the factory.

The SEAT dealer is talking balls.

As long as its been professionally repaired and isnt on the computer as a write off, then is no reason to believe its value will be impacted.

NOR are you obliged to disclose that it has been in an accident.
