In some circumstances yes, if the original is marked with a "debt assigned" flag to show they are actually the same default.

Regardless, you only have the original now. So one default.
So what you saying and confirming is that its possible to have 2 defaults for the same account in some circumstances.
I cant remember seeing any debt assigned marked on the original account on my credit report.
Doesnt this practice cause more damage to a individuals credit report? Is this practice legally allowed?0 -
I think from what the experian rep posted, if it says debt assigned then you see both records, but anyone searching your file just sees one.
More often than not, when DCAs post a duplicate entry, they either change the date or don't mark as assigned. The ICO default guidelines state what should be done, but from memory, don't cover the debt assigned duplicate entries.:beer:0 -

Sorry i dont understand. Can you please clarify. When i checked my credit report I seen 2 entries each with their own default.0 -
You say you only have one default now, so the report is correct.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

The original default should have been marked 'debt assigned' meaning only you could see it. There certainly shouldn't ever be two defaults visible to lenders on your report relating to one debt.

Update:
I looked at my up to date credit report today and it does say 'Debt Assigned to CAIS Member' on the original default.
What does CAIS mean?
It should say 'Debt Assigned to Lowell' for better understanding right?
So what you saying is only I can see this original default and lenders cant? If Lenders cant see it then does it mean this original default doesnt effect my credit score?0 -
Is there a date of assignment?:beer:0

It means that the debt has been taken over by another company that also shares information through Experian.
