Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thursday 29 November 2012. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning all,
Thanks so much for the Birthday wishes for dd, she had a fantastic day, shopping and lunch out, she even got asked for her ID over a dvd she was buying
and was able to prove she was 18 :rotfl:, we still have the meal on saturday to look forward to.
Very cold here, for the first time I have set the heating to come on in the morning, it was so nice to wake up warm, I guess thats it now for the winter.
Off to work today, and something with chips for dinner, nice and easy, managed to get loads of washing done yesterday before we went out, and risked it on the line, it was a lovely blowy day so mainly dried, its been on the airer so that can go away tonight.
Beemuzed, please keep on posting, we will miss you if you dont xx
Have good days all xx

Morning Redruby and all who follow. Freezing here today and had just about finished showering when the circuits tripped. Lights were working but no power. DH a bit annoyed as I kept asking him about the circuit board , I don't understand it!!!!!!!!!!! Power now restored so I can have a cup of tea. DD has tonsillitis so will have to miss her work placement and get a doctor's appointment. Going to get hair cut today after school so will look less like a mop. Not sure what is for tea but no doubt something in freezer. Hugs to all in need esp LW, Molly and Hilstep. Beemuzed please keep posting, I'm not as os as some people on here but just find the thread so supportive. Have a good day all and keep warm.:)£180.00 in 'sistercas'fund
Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us.

Good Morning all very chilly here in Kent and grey and grotty looking .Today I have a histy tour around one of the buildings in Rochersert which I am looking forward to.Managed to make enough curry for three portions to go into the freezer so my £3.00 chicken streeeetched to six meals ,my sort of bargain.I have been watching on t.v. the pictures of the floods all over the place and feel so sorry for the folks who will be without a home this Chistmas,an awful worry for them anf to lose precious things ,not goods and chattels which can be replaced but photos amd momentoes which can't must be dreadful.
I live around a half a mile from the River Medway in fact I can see it in the distance from my bedroom window, but I am on higher ground so its not been a problem and there is quite a lot of land between the river and the first lot of houses. But I can't help but feel for those who just ;looked on and sometimes were trapped as the waters rose.Nature can be beautiful, but sometimes very cruel.
Well I must fly as I have the school run to do then I want to make a sponge cake before going out at lunchtime on my trip.Take care all and stay warm if possible

P.S. Monnagran I know the Travellers Joy well both my late OH and his two brothers bought their first pints in there. My brother -in-law David was in the darts team along with my OH and other brother Ray.All the village lads went there rather than the pub at the top of Horsebridge Hill.
They lived in Wyatts lane and my late Ma-in-laws garden is now Wyatts Close as they lived at 52.My OH was born two doors away from the 'Travellers' as his Grandfather and Granny lived there, and his granddad built the cottages there as he was the local builder.Northwood hasn't changed very much apart from the new builds of bungalows which were built in the 1960s.Still a quiet peaceful little place though0 -
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Light cloud, chilly windy and wet underfoot but not raining here this morning. DH up and off to work stupid early.
Last night dinner was beef stew and dumplings, mash, cabbage, courgettes, carrots and LO yorkshires, no-one had room for desserts! so it was just teas and coffee for afters! Not sure what we will be having tonight - have quite an assortment of food in the fridge and freezer - we certainly won't starve but it may be a made up recipe!
Work yesterday was very quiet early on then became much busier as the morning went on. Glad I'm now on days' off - have all the normal chores to do, but I'm going to the hairdressers shortly - hair seems to have grown loads since the last cut - I have it cut every 6 weeks - as if I don't it's just a complete nightmare.
Friend came over with her son for coffee, cake and catch up - nice to see her just wish she would improve her situation - some of her problems are completely self made, she asks my advice and me to help her, which I'll always do if I'm able but she just doesn't seem able to move forward - I don't mean to judge but she's been in this situation a long time now, whilst there was some improvement at the beginning - nothing is happening now, and possibly what's more worrying is that she doesn't seem to want to move forward or be that bothered. Think I may suggest that I go and help have a major de-pit again - last time I went she was working a lot of hours but now isn't working so many so she may see it as help she can then use to move forward. The last time I went to her house it was even worse than it had been before and by all accounts it's even worse now - hence the reason that she doesn't spend hardly any time there (personally if I had to sit and look at it I wouldn't want to spend time there either) - it's such a shame because she was so very house proud - when we became neighbours and friends 22 years ago I would quite happily have eaten off her floors - everything was spotless and she was on top of all her chores/jobs, worked full time, cooked properly etc. I can only be there I can't do it for her so will just try to be supportive as and when necessary.
Sorry that seems like I'm having a moan - I'm just concerned for and her son.
Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

Good morning all,
It's very frosty as well here, but we are too high up to have flood problems, my thoughts are with those who are struggling.

Morning :hello:
Just been down to the girl's shed (well, about an hour ago), it's freezing outside. I use rubber gloves when I clean them out and leave the gloves in the shed. They were too cold to put onSo I want fleeced lined rubber gloves for Christmas, please.
I'm catching up with unfinished jobs from yesterday. I was shredding paper (doesn't matter how careful I am, bits get everywhere!) and the washing was halfway through a cycle. Mum rang and said they'd been in an accident but were OK. Now, my mum's VERY straight talking, if it was serious she would've said. But I still panickedShe'd already seen the doc and dad was with him. One broken wrist and a few bruises later, we were sat in their kitchen drinking coffee.
I've hung the washing up to dry and swept up the bits of paper. The washer's back on with another load and there's more paper to shred. All the washing up from mid-afternoon onwards is waiting to be done *groan*.
I went out to clear the greenhouses a couple of days ago, there were 6 ripe tomatoesI'm going to put off clearing them for another couple of weeks.

Lovely to see Jackie G posting and Tru too :T:T:TI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Morning all,
brr its a cold one today! They said in the news that certain parts of the country would have temperatures of -20.
Decided to get out of the school reunion which is Friday. I have told my friend. There was 3 of us going together and i would have made the effort if there was only the 2 of us for her sake but she wont be alone.
She is going to pop in to see me on Saturday.... i could moan further that Saturday is my busiest day of the week but i wont.
Had a letter posted through my letterbox last night from Auntie. Her son had posted it through my letterbox and she was pleading with me to come and see her. Things are awkward. I feel as though i am stepping on her sons toes. Things have gone missing in her house (the last thing i need is someone pointing the finger at me). If i go and help her she will insist on paying me (which i dont want). At the moment she has carers going in.
Ive gone through this with my own Mother (although my Mother expected it of me) and it didnt work out well. I still think Aunties best place is in a retirement home but she wont go because she would have to sell her house to pay the fees.
I need to speak to her son really but he's always been a bit awkward around me. Even as a child we grew up together but never really mixed.
Oh well, i'll think about it some more and make a decision over the weekend.
Have a good day all and keep warm! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Good morning everyone
Brrrrr! This is definitely a day for hibernating, it took two jugs of water and even a spray of de-icer, which I hate using, to get the car cleared today.
Managed to make a start on the cupboards yesterday and have one bag of rubbish, one bag for Oxfam and 2 items for ebay. I will keep this up a bit at a time until the weekend and then have a blitz again. Oxfam challenge of 5 bags a week will continue.
Pulled pork was delicious, Aldi's pork shoulder was better than any of the big supermarkets and it should do another 2 meals and then some freezer portions. Tonights will be served with rice, tomatoes and peppers. HM soup as per usual for lunch.
I need to make mince pies this week and DH is talking about making a recipe with spiced fruit and apple tarts that he saw on Saturday kitchen, so we will be fighting over the supplies.
The bath drain appears to be a bit blocked so must get some washing soda on the way home. I love that stuff, it works for everything and it reminds me of my gran.
I hope everyone is keeping safe and warm and will leave with well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them.
