Orange cant unlock iphone

It has been 8 weeks since my first phonecall to orange to have an iPhone 3GS unlocked.

its still locked!
They took the fee out of my bank account!
its cost me 10 quid in calls to try and sort the problem
their email system is bouncing emails back with an automated reply that they are having email issues.
and i am having to resort to letters of complaint sent via recorded delivery.

Avoid getting a locked phone on contract with orange, as it seems they stay locked!

Presumably you have put a non orange sim in the phone and synced it with itunes?

You don't really have that choice if you buy it anything other than Sim Free, all networks lock them.

As I understand it all iphones come unlocked, when you put the SIM and activate the phone part of the process is it talks to Apples servers and looks up in Apples database if it should be locked or not, it then locks or stays unlocked depending on how Apple have it registered. If you change a SIM the phone needs activating and it does the same process to check it's still locked or unlocked.

Sounds like someone at Orange got confused.

Iphones don't need unlock codes like most other phones , it's done by changing a setting on Apples database, the phone then unlocks on the next sync with iTunes with a different sim.
  • i have tried the reset, but i will try again now.

just to confirm i did it right the first time?

put non orange sim in, connect to itunes and do the reset from within i tunes?

    Sorry thats just wrong.

Orange get Apple to unlock it, you put another sim in and the phoen will ask to be activated.

Connect to Itunes (or Wifi) and activate the phone and if Orange and Apple have done the deed it will activate.

All they need to tell you is that it's been done.

Have you tried the time you put in another phone to be sure the sim isn't faulty (you probalby have..)

I believe there is now only 1 monkey in the iPhone unlocking department. The usual time to unlock is 7-8 weeks, but I understand this is now nearer 10 with Xmas coming up.

If they've taken the money, they'll do it - you just have to be patient!
