hi...A few months back we got a fine from UKPC for overstaying at McDonalds, just inside having meal and a good catchup with freinds was there 1 houre 45 mins.so 15 min over..so we got the first letter (with the photo of the car on the letter)and went to McDonalds. and spoke to the manager and he said nothing to do with him and did not want to know.
so after reading lots of avice on loads of forums and blogs saying it is not a fine ingore this.so we did 3 letters in all.now a letter has turned up today from debt collector asking for the payment in 7 days and there client is UKPC for the McDonalds overstay fine.
so we phoned citizens advice and told them of it all and they said they seem to have done evrything right and should pay them..
so not sure if there is misleading advice out there or what not sure what to do now,,anyone with any advice or had the letter from the debt collecor...

Unfortunately this is one thing the Citizens Advice are crap at.
The uaual advice is to ignore them, as far as I know it has not changed. Debt collectors are just another piece in the chain which means you are near the end. Just the solicitors (fake) letter to come and a begging letter offering a discount and that's the end.
Look at the stickies at the start and you will find ta copy of their standard letter chain.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
Oh dear, the Citizen's Advice Bureau make me despair sometimes.
Done everything right? Apart from the little fact that MET do not own the land in question therefore legally cannot offer a consideration for parking (only the landowner/occupier can do this) so cannot form a contract with a driver. So legally there are no terms and conditions for you to breach.
Also, even if there was a contract the only remedy for breaching it is the landowners actual losses only. Which is zero if its a free car park.
MET don't do court. They know that if they did, then legally speaking, they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.
Ignore it is the correct advice, forget CAB!Je Suis Cecil.0 -
oh dear me, cab, is deffo a no go area on here, they are worse than useless, because they have no idea,it doesnt really matter, because why are you worrying,,,a)you have a fake ticket b)debt collectors are about as usefull as cab, powerless that is c)misleading advice out there, absolutely not and certainly not on here,so its simple,,IGNORE,full stop, you have taken this SCAM far to seriously,,,so there you go from the best advice forum around, jobs a real belter aint it d)chill out now, feet up, relax, glass of wine.0

As usual, the advice given Citizens Advice is wrong. It's not a fine, debt collectors are just private citizens with no special powers. Keep ignoring. For further ressaurance please read some other threads on this forumWhat part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

What's the debt collector called? It's possible it's the same company that issued the fake ticket, just trying to scare you into paying.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080

Make a paper plane from the debt collector letter and try and throw it into your rubbish bin first time.Got a ticket from ParkingEye? Seek advice by clicking here: Private Parking forum on MoneySavingExpert.:j0

Yep there is misleading advice out there, from the CAB. COMPLAIN about that advice which is completely wrong.
Jeez, all they have to do is Google it or watch Watchdog!

The scam was covered yet again this month by Watchdog Daily!
And if you just read the 'sticky' (permanently at the top of the forum) letter chains thread then you'd know everyone gets these letters and you should just be playing snap with each laughable threat by now:

HTH, find your letter and you can see what will come next. Look under any PPC that uses the same debt collector. Your letter will be there!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I should imagine you'll hear nothing moreWhen posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.
