Hmm this has just made me think, and ive just had a look on google fir a calculator but they seem rather confusing!
Iv just purchased a stainless steel ring for $64 usd including postage, cost me just under £42 when paying via paypal, its coming from america, does anyone have a rough idea of what inport costs ill have to pay?
I did know id have costs to pay but just wasnt sure of what they would be?
If it is hit by customs fees, you may well be looking at around 18 quid for that. A tenner for processing fees, depending on which carrier, and 20% VAT of around 8 quid. Depends on how the seller marks it on the customs for though, some items do slip through and some are under-valued.0 -
can you not just refuse
Just to note an INR claim would be invalid if a buyer refused to collect an item whether from customs or the local delivery depot, it isn't classed as a "good faith" dispute and may be viewed by eBay as abuse of their Buyer Protection program. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
Ta for that, £18 isnt bad, i was just thinking i may end up paying £30+!0

Whats the handling charge for? Surely their being paid to handle the parcel when its posted with them lol!0

I think this is a standard charge, which effectively is for dealing with customs and paying your customs fees for you in advance of recouping them for you.
To be honest, the last time a had to pay a customs fee via Royal Mail, it meant a 10 mile return trip and a lot of hanging about whilst my package was found, so I wouldn't begrudge anyone else charging something reasonable to avoid it on an item that was at a good price!"The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing.

well in reality you chose to make the trip
you have online and postal payment options0 -
Soolin ,you seem to biased
Anyways my question here is can I use this service now from baybrokers(for clearing customs for my shipment) and save $30+ bucks or is it too late and let UPS loot me??
lol,what a loon
As for baybrokers. how exactly would they do that after UPS have already dealt with it?0 -

you pay postage,for posting stuff
is their a higher rate of postage for items requiring customs clearance?
would it be better for everyone to pay a higher rate just in case?0 -
so i guess there's nothing i can do in this situation..and UPS charging mot$f$in $63 for an item worth $158,(40% of the item value), is that justified??
The reason for me buying the tablet from the US was the cost itself, and even if there was import fees im pretty sure it cannot be 40% of item value.
I feel like im being looted
From your figures, the additional cost of the import tax only adds on less than 16% of the items value. If I were you I would just suck it up, its your fault you didnt look into additional taxes you would have to pay to import, and in the end you got your item for 44% off in total.0 -

No not at all, i was just saying that they charge a 'handling' fee but theyre already 'handling' your package anyway! Seems like madness, but im very happy to pay it. Maybe they should call it a clearance charge or something, just to separate the two.0
