Many thanks for Shokadelika for starting the useful thread on rosehip oil (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=360547). Have ordered mine and looking forward to using it.
Can someone advise me on a good, natural, general anti-ageing skincare range that is reasonably priced?- I assume you're not supposed to use the rosehip oil to replace your normal moisturiser (or maybe you are?) so I was wondering what you folks would recommend for general anti-ageing cleanse, tone and moisturise.
I've been using the Energys range from Higher Nature for a couple of months now (see www.energysskincare.com)-it's expensive and to be honest I haven't noticed a great deal of difference in my skin. I'm also quite surprised that none of the moisturisers contain a sunscreen- so I'm looking to change my skincare routine! I'm 43 and I'd describe my skin type as 'combination'! Any advice gratefully received.

From my limited knowledge the cheapest stuff on the market is just as good as the more expensive things they all contain around about the same stuff and for any of these so called anti ageing creams to work we should of started using them a long time ago ....a basic cleanse tone and moisturise routine is all anyone can do ,you cant stop the signs of ageing, just learn to live with it and be happy in your own skin is the only advice i can offerWill this hammy hunt ever end ???

There was a BBC horizon program on the other week call Prof. Regans Beauty parlour or something like that. It examined the some of the truth and myths behind beauty products and that alot of the expensive products are a waste of time.
Seems all you need is a moisturiser with sunscreen in it (acts as anti-aging) and maybe some anti-oxidant properties ie something like vitamin e inside it. Do not use too many harsh products on your face and use a simple moisturiser as above.
To avoid wrinkles and repair damaged skin you need some type of collagen repair agent. There is some acne medication tetinol (spelling?) which contains retinoic acid which repairs collagen but has side effects hence available on prescription only and your Dr won't give it you simply for cosmetic purposes.
If you find the transcript for this horizon program let me know so I can show my mum. Apparently Boots sold out overnight of some product mentioned on this program ... any1 know what it was???

EDIT :: The cream in question is Boots No.7 Protect and Perform beauty serum 40ml for 17quid or so (Looks like this will be hard to get hold of for a few weeks as they are selling on ebay for 4x value). Another alternative in No.7 range which does the same job is Boots No.7 Refine and Rewind.Grocery Challenge 2008
Jan £103.17/£180, Feb £47.06/£120
£10 per day Challenge 2008
Jan 08 £17.64/£140 (Late start and lost the plot!!!)0 -
Virtually most "anti-aging" creams just contain sun-screen as sun damage can lead to premature aging of the skin. Also STOP SMOKING.
Moisturisers just puff up the skin lessening the severity of wrinkles .... though they do help keep your skin hydrated and supple.

They don't all contain the same stuff actually. The link below is for Grace Cosmetics. They are an Australian company and all of the ingredients for all their products are natural plant extracts-you will see these in the product description. These products are not available in stores (never have been because it is sold like 'Tupperware' used to be, if you know what I mean,) but a few sites are starting to sell it. Maybe it's more than you would nornally pay, but then again if you pay £20 for a synthetic product from the Boots counter, it's cheaper and noticeably effective. When I move to the continent (soon) I may have to pay more in postage, but I won't be without it.;)

I go to a yoga class with a lady several decades older than me and she looks fantastic. The yoga I am sure has a big part to play - flexibility, core muscle strength, good blood pressure, mental and emotional centredness etc.* For a woman well into pensionable age she is more graceful and poised than women a third her age. She also recommends facial exercises to keep everyhing pert and line-free. We keep our body muscles toned, so why not our faces?
* A recent medical trial (can't remember the reference) found that people who meditated daily - and it didn't have to be of the 'Ohm' variety! - were much calmer and happier: it seems that the part of the brain involved with positive thinking is more responsive in regular meditators.
My top tip? Lots of orgasmic sex. Seriously - all those happy endorphins flood the body, and you sleep better (always a beauty bonus).0
