  • Hello

I'm new and I'd like to sign up :)

I really want to try and do this and if it really doesn't work I'm sure I'll have saved something so it won't be a failure just not a full success.

I'm aiming to hibernate this festive season, with all the movies on telly and leftovers in the fridge it seems the perfect season to spend at home not splashing the cash.

I have two meals out arranged which I will budget £20 each for and anything I do not spend can go in the tin.

It's also my daughters birthday but I will buy her present Friday and put some money in a jar to use on a special day out.

I've budgeted for my food and petrol so need to write that down.

SO here we go, hello everyone.

    Hi to everyone,

Once again Kat you have outdone yourself, I am very impressed with this challenge, but at the moment I feel it is not the right time for me, I started the NOvember challenge off really well and motivated, but personal stuff got in the way and I slipped, so I have decided that I am not going to punish myself with this one.

I shall of course check in and see how everyone is getting on and I will cheer from the sides.

I love this challenge, so I hope you are all excited and motivated to get going.

I already have a tin that I am using to save my holiday spends in for next October, so that will continue, also I have reduced the amount I have spent on general food shopping during November, I have learned some very valuable lessons on where my weakness is in regards to spending so I am not going to let that go, I shall make sacrifices along the way and aim to come in at the end of the year with some cash in the bank and not completely frazzled by the whole experience.

Good luck to you all :)
:) Been here for a long time and don't often post
  • have been adjusting my budget to fit in with the rules. Trying to pick 20 NSD which is difficult with xmas things to buy but I'm determined to get there!

One definite NSD will be 25th Dec!!!!! Not planning to go shopping in the sales - hate sale shopping after christmas unless I've got a specific item I'm after and there is absolutely nothing I need this year.

Plan plan plan I'm guessing this is going to be the secret to sticking to the challenge :)

  • TomandJerry - Not sure how much Gluten free flour costs compared to normal Strong bread flour, but I have been making my own bread and it works about about 40p per loaf. And thats a large one using 550g of flour.

So well worth doing it. You don't really need any equipment.
Just flour, yeast, salt, sugar, butter & water. knead, shape into a round mound on a baking tray, leave to rise and bake.
Ok you will not have the conventional square shaped sandwiches, but who likes to be conventional :D.

    Go for it xxx

Thank you SS, I give it definitely a go, we'll see how many I burn :rotfl:. I am not conventional so the shape suits me fine :D. I could do with another baking tray though. Sounds like the HM bread is much cheaper so really looking forward to it now. Let you know my progress

Right, I've lurked on your threads for long enough Kat! I'm ready and raring to go for December! I get paid tomorrow and have spent tonight planning my budget.
I live with my parents and contribute "rent" every month so I won't need a food allowance as I have this provided. I have 5 events planned so thats 5 spend days, and I will try to tie in present buying and such like with these.
The 20 NSDs seems do-able. My overall budget for the month is £220. This is all my social enagements and presents. I realise this may be a lot to some of you but this is my first time with such a challenge, and have never really worked with a budget before.
If December goes according to the plan, I can start January overdraft free!
    Please sign me up NSK!

Ooh nanell, you sound like kat's perfect candidate-all shiny and new :D

Overdraft free by 2013? That sounds like a great incentive. Your signture tells me you've already done brilliantly this month so I'm guessing you'll breeze through the challenge!
  • Ok so I have just been through my diary and planned out my December spends - frightening stuff. I've weeded out what I could so:

Food budget reduced to £170 for 3 ppl I think this is as low as I can go given we will want a lovely roast on Xmas day!

    Socialising £120

Xmas gifts -mainly for children £205 - hopefully can shave a bit off of that as well. Have cut out a few gifts from dd's.....

Dd's birthday £50 but had made it clear to her now she is 19 she will be getting one gift already

    Petrol £90

So that's my lot. Hmmmmm not entirely sure how I'll do!

I will be at the gym - 4-5 times a week but lengthy sessions as I am hoping to join the police specials in the new year and have my fitness test coming up.
Batch cooking chilli con carne tonight to freeze and will be at parents/in laws for meals throughout december so should shave money from food budget.
Petrol budget will be £150 considering time of year and that will be doing a fair bit of driving to see family and friends.
Christmas present budget -£100 only few things to buy on my Spend days.
Already agreed to secret santa at work at the start of October and present bought for that £10 total.
Works christmas meal is being paid for by lottery winnings accumulated throughout the year so this should come in as a NSD hopefully. Sorry for the long post.
    Target - 20 NSDS
