I'm sure they'll claw that back in the gas & electric price rise they're sure to announce very soon !!!

I switched from E.on in about 2008 following their price increase. I followed the rules and they still charged the increased prices.

So I raised a complaint and got the matter resolved that way. Who wouldn't having already gone to the time & effort of (a) notifying the supplier of the rejection of their notice to increase prices and (b) changed supplier.

Will I get part of that £1.7m?

(Actually I can't ever remember any supplier not charging me the increased price, until I raised a complaint about it and subsequently got each final bill revised - I get the feeling no supplier has the accounting software in place to keep anyone on the original prices)

For several years E.ON have refused to give discounts on final bills even if the customer was leaving for another supplier due to E.ON's price rise. This was despite marketing certain plans as having "no exit fee."

For most reasonable consumers, withdrawal of a discount just because a customer is leaving = an exit fee.

I trust this is therefore being included with the automatic refunds?

I agree this was an awful policy and if I had been a customer would have tested under the exit fee ruling and or other issues.

We did try this way and through many comments on the Forum.

Eventually they have now dropped it. I hope you are right but doubt if they will reimburse customers who were affected by their sneaky policy.
  • I Like others have said they switched how do I find out if we are entitled in a refund - I remember being charged to change over!

As it says, E.on have already identified those affected and will contact them :)

Did you notify the supplier at the time that you rejected their notice to increase prices?

    Hi all

Just thought I'd post some info to the questions/comments posed so far following yesterday's press announcements.

As backfoot says, we stopped the policy of not giving discounts on final bills this September. This, though, doesn't form part of yesterday's announcement.

All customers affected by this mistake have been identified. They'll each be sent a letter and a cheque in January 2013.

Hope this answers these questions but if anyone has anything else on this matter please let me know. I'll be happy to help.

Thanks for the response Malc. Will you be automatically refunding the withheld final bill discounts to affected customers?
