Christmas Eve food - what do you do?

We have fish & chips. It started about 5 years when both my hubby & I were staying with my grandma over Christmas & had been wrapping all day. No one fancied cooking and we still had lots to do, so we popped round to the chip shop and really enjoyed it, so did it again next year. Then over Christmas in Superdrug I saw a fish & chip takeaway gift set with newspaper print plastic plates, wooden forks, salt & vinegar containers like they have in the chippy & some napkins. I had to buy it and every Christmas eve now it comes out for our tea. Grandma passed away in 2010, so every time we have our meal on those plates, we think of her eating her chips & scampi. I think I look forward to that more than our Christmas roast.

It's our wedding anniversary on Christmas Eve and I work long hours on that day every year. Not allowed to have time off over Xmas was very lucky to have my wedding day. Ha ha. Anyway there isn't a particular food that we have every year but hubby always cooks something wonderful. It's lovely, I get home from work and he's put the kids to bed and set the table for a gorgeous meal. Last year was home made Lasagne, can't wait to see what he prepares this year.

We normally have a mini buffet I say mini because there are only 3 of us, this year however I am working and I feel abit bad leaving mum the xmas dinner prep and then the buffet aswell so we are discussing a takeaway this year especially as we have had an amazing deal come through the door that involves getting 50% off if you collect it and pay cash very MSE:money:0

3 years ago me and the boyfriend went for a pub meal and had a mad dash for the last train home. 2 years ago we got a HUGE American Pizza Slice (and had the left overs for breakfast- don't judge- it always tastes nicer in the morning!). I cannot remember for love nor money what we did last Christmas Eve though. We probably had a takeaway. Same goes for this Xmas Eve. I'll be working but leaving around 3ish so may get a pub dinner again =]0

Thank you. Christmas hasn't been the same since she died, but I'm working so hard to get my festive spirit back. I had so many happy Christmases with her. I think she loved Christmas because it usually meant she had a house full of people to fuss over.

Aaw I kno exactly what you mean I had a superstar Nana too. I've a few of her Christmas decorations
There isn't a day goes by without me thinking of her. Especially since I've been a Nana, I strive to be the Nana to my GDDs that she was to me (well even half would do) xxx The secret of Christmas

Last three years we've gone to the inlaws on Christmas eve for Shepards Pie & cabbage!
I put a large gammon or pork loin in the slow cooker before we go, then when we get home we have hot pork crusty rolls with loads of apple sauce.0 -
