  • I can not lift and I can not do office work(as in typing or minutes) so it does not leave many jobs left.

You mean to tell me there are no jobs that don't include lots of lifting or typing/minute taking?

Alright maybe I have gone for stupid jobs I can not type, lift or take minutes, but that was three key elements of the job that I would need to have adjustments to do.

But it seems unjust that I am unable to do lots of jobs just because of my body, but is it really worth the effort to fight for jobs just to prove a point that disabled people should be able to do anything?

You need to concentrate on your abilities and not disabilities phil. I am disabled where I lost the use of my arm following an accident and found there were many things I couldn't do anymore and would not be able to do in the future. However, I adapted to it and made changes, I even took a course in office admin and learned to type one handed and passed exams in RSA 3 typing and wordprocessing which is the highest you can do - I was as fast and faster than others on the same course. Following this I got a job typing scripts for a drama which had crucial deadlines.

It is not a matter of proving a point that disabled people should be able to do anything as you put it. You forever make a big point about disability and not what you can achieve yourself - forget the disabled banner!! You say you can't type but you manage on here very well! Take a typing course like I did and prove to yourself you can do it.

I have mentioned to you before about the disabled new deal at the job centre where they find you a place of work suitable to you so that you can try it out, they make sure that all your requirements are set up and if you are not happy they will find you something else. You probably haven't looked into that have you.

When you do look for a job try and look for something within your ability - note that I said ABILITY!

Of course there are lots of jobs that don't require that, but they are not open to me. Being a non- excutive/ lay director does not require those but no one is going to give me jobs like that at the moment.

Come on. There's loads of other jobs. Many involve sitting at a PC all day ;)
    Or telephone work for example

You can't type? Pull the other one, 12,000 posts in less than a year say otherwise, unless you have a dictating program in which case - you could use that at work

Yes, there is a bit of a difference to a few words here. Compared to 4 hours for 2 sides of A4. No one is going to want me in a job with any level of typing being that slow.

Aren't there loads of call centre type jobs? Or data entry jobs?

Call centres sound a possibility, but data entry involves fast keyboard skills. How about working in a bookshop?
