Some selfish !!!!!!!(pardon me but so angry right now) cut the catalytic converter off our peugeot diesel during the night, 2 other houses also targeted that I know of so far.
It is going to cost about £400 to fix, if I claim on my insurance, is it likely to hike next years premium in the way an accident claim would? I live in a small, normally low crime town, not a big city if this has any bearing
Please be patient with any mis-spellings and typos I am officially useless with a touchscreen keyboard!!!

£100 excess and protected no cliams, but that of course doesn't stop them hiking the pemiuum at renewal, just means you don't lose your no claims discount

What model is it? That sounds very expensive for a cat converter, fitting them is usually an easy job, fiddly at most nearer the manifold, also as the exhaust system is usually split in to several bits - unless of course they cut through other sections of the exhaust adding to costs, but even then the price sounds very steep.

You could find a breakers also to see about getting a second user one....
  • There is no rhyme nor reason as to how insurance companies arrive at premiums these days.
    It just goes up, regardless.

I have specialist insurance and it shot up by 30% last year despite no accidents or points whatsoever from the previous policy.

The recent storms that battered the UK will no doubt add on to any insurance policy come renewal.
  • I didn't know diesels had catalytic converters.

You might well be buying your own back.

An increasingly common theft though because they have plenty of expensive metals in them so the scrap value is fairly high. Tends to be 4x4's they go for though, easier to get under without having to jack the vehicle up.

Just as an aside, you haven't had an influx of caravans in the area have you?

Now now, no need for "racism".

At least, that's what the cops told me when there was a spate of vehicle crime in my area. The fact that there were a lot of caravans parked nearby and several stolen cars (one of them being mine) were found stripped bare near where they were parked was immaterial; the fact that I was using a racial stereotype in suggesting responsibility may have lay within was totally out of order and I was the worst human alive for even mentioning it.

In other words, typical cop attitude of being scared to try and do their jobs so decided to criminalize the victim instead as they're all push-overs!

Who's being racist? I did say 'as an aside'. I was simply enquiring as to the general suitability of the local area for people who prefer a nomadic lifestyle and terribly, terribly over the top weddings. Nothing more.
