Vodafone 12 month sim free - will they let me go to a contract

Hi all. Just a quick question I got a voda sim only 12 month deal about 3 months ago but I've decided I should have gone for a contract with a handset. Anyone know if they will let me out if I sign a 24 month x

I would think upgrading wouldn't be a problem. but don't offer 24 months as they might be happy with 12 or 18. see what they say.
  • I'm already on a 12 month contract but didn't get a phone. My sim only plan is £15 a month but would be going up to 37 x I really want the iPhone 5 for £100 too x

maybe an option is buying a used iphone 4 or 4s sorry but I don't think the 5 is that much better it warrants £529.

It is really gonna depend on whom you get, I used to work in consumer retentions and you could do this, but it would mean "bending" a few rules.

You'll most likely have to buy out the rest of your contract at £15 x 9 months = £135 as well as pay the £37 per month and the £100 up front for the iphone.

You may get a discount but it's unlikely they'll let you off it all.

I'd be disappointed with that - that would effectively be paying for two contracts. Surely they would be able to just terminate the current plan if you were to take out a more expensive one and stay with them?

Can you not just phone them & ask.Nobody really will tell you apart from Vodafone themselves.

Probably the current plan is a discount on the full price because you have agreed to stay with them for 12 months, so your £15 a month would have been £20 a month if you hadn't committed to 12 months.

Be interesting to see what they offer.

Although it is a SIM only tariff, its still a contract commitment, you would have to buy out of your SIM only contract which will leave you free to get a new contract with a phone.

The other alternatives would be to purchase a phone and carry on using the SIM only contract or take out an additional line with a phone which will mean paying for two contracts.

If you know of anyone wanting a SIM only contract for a short period, a change of contract ownership might be an option.

As said give them a ring and see what they say. Cant see why they would turn down in view of the extra commitment of 15 months plus over £600 extra over a 2 year period.

Unless the new contract is a special offer which it seems it isn't would assume you would have a good chance of an upgrade.

I know O2 used to do this for people on 12 month sim only deals.
