I bought off plan and it was a purchase from hell. Not TW though. I really recommend not buying on a new build estate off plan.
When built the buildings were far closer together than I ever imagined, no where near enough parking and it ended up a concrete jungle. The brochures made it look like the house of my dreams.

I bought a TW new build just over a year ago but it had already been built so that I could view the property, I have only had small snagging problems which have all been sorted out really quickly.

The morning after I moved the site manager (who was also known by his first name) appeared at the door - told me to put the kettle on and made himself useful by organising a joiner to put up my curtain rails. Until the last house was sold he was always contactable, always turned up when he said he would and always wanted a cuppa.

I am in a semi - very very rarely hear the person next door but he is on his own and that might have something to do with it.

It is really worth viewing a comparable property as I went to another site to view show homes and some of the rooms were really tiny and I wouldn't have bought one of those.

Usually you get threads banging on about how dreadful new builds are but this seems quite balanced! They are not for everybody but if you do your research then you'll be fine.
  • TW have again pleased me today. The completion date has been brought forward and I've been given pre-warning of the ten working days notice they legally have to give. They have also agreed to giving my flooring fitters access 2 full days prior to completion.

My experience has been largely positive so far. I will see what the completed house is like before giving a full review!
  • One thing I noticed was that the rooms did not have doors, presumeably to make the rooms feel bigger.
    .

Ikea do this too in their 'show home' mock-ups, also no radiators or fireplaces.

I'm buying my second TW home (upgrading from a flat to a semi with their PX scheme). Was pretty happy about the first home , small snagging list was all sorted in the first month , get two year warranty from the day you move, also 24/7 emergency support for 2 years. Took the deposit match scheme and it worked out really well. Make sure you get the whitegoods included in the price cos they put pretty decent branded ones. Hope everything goes the same with my second move. :)
  • Thanks for all the responses.

I agree this is probably the first thread I've read where there's a few positive reviews!!

They've offered to pay stamp duty, conveyancing, flooring throughout, all appliances, hob, and choice of worktops.

We just need to decide whether we can afford it!!??

    T

    They've offered to pay... conveyancing....

Make sure you use your own conveyancer as TW's convenyancer will be more interested in keeping TW happy and won't be working for you.
  • I've been using the recommended solicitor and haven't encountered any problem at all. He has definitely been working in my favour. There have been a few issues I've had to have him negotiate with TW and these have been done very well.

I favour the good old fashioned pro and con list! It will help you work through what is really concerning you hopefully! I'd also recommend going with their recommended solicitor. I did first time around and they were brilliant, this time I used a conveyancer appointed by my mortgage provider as it was free and it has been incredibly stressful and with the end not quite in sight. Good luck!
