Personally I never go by what food costs per kg - I work it out per day for a dog Zara's size and take it from there.

Often the food that seems cheaper pr kg works much more expensive as you may need to feed more of it per day/per dog that other food.

One of my hounds has a weird skin rash, unidentified - at- first-sight by vet so I have been trying different foods to see if that made a difference.

Dogs look good on this, and they enjoy it, skin problem seems to have settled.

Thanks - that is where I got it from.

But I have no idea what all this means so that is why I asked someone CLEVER to compare the ingridients rather than just "rating" :)

Wish I could go bact to Orijen for Zara but... sigh.. :(

Mine used to get CSJ as my girl has a food allergy and easily gets an upset tum but I've switched to Skinners duck and rice as CSJ started to give her a skin reaction.

They are both GSDs with my boy weighing 35kg and my girl 32kg.

I buy the 15kg bags for £23-£25 depending on where it's in stock. It lasts roughly 4 weeks for the two of them, although I do mix in some wet food a few times a week and make allowances for treats/scraps/leftovers etc. Also they both have hip/leg problems so I keep them rather lean as they can't afford to carry to much weight around and they are not as active as a dog without these problems.

    Prairie Meal,
    Tomato,

I did look at the Autarkey a while back - there's an awful lot of ingredients in there!

2 things ruled it out for me - Prairie meal is basically a cereal and has gluten in it - which will be one of the reasons this isn't a Hypoallergenic food.

Also, Tomato can upset dog's tums - which is what I was trying to sort out!

Didn't really go any further down the list TBH

  • I also use skinners duck, I get it from amazon on subscribe and save. You can change the dates when you need it, or order a extra bag with the discount whenever you like and cancel when you like.
I am thinking of changing to a new food I found in my local garden centre, it's called natures way, I spoke to the owner of the company and was very impressed with the food and price, it's 50-60% meat. I have managed to find it online http://www.notjustpets.co.uk/dog-food-natures-way-c-1_12_136.html?zenid=692bae34b3d9281db291bf5a3f6e01ad the adult bags were £32 in my garden centre

Well the CSJ has been brilliant for my dogs. Lucy, 10, used to have the most dreadful loose poos and was struggling quite a bit with her mobility - she's a Golden Retriever Cross and weighs 40kg. The CSJ has rejuvenated her.

No more tummy trouble and her joint pain is a thing of the past too. And Jack, who's 4, has the most amazing gloss to his coat that people stop me and comment on how shiny it is.

I would feed my dogs the best quality complete food I can find, but I can honestly say the CSJ That'll Do is keeping them in the best condition I could hope for.
