Got a small coffee jar, poured in out-of-date beer (hard to believe!) and placed in my strawberrys - this morning had 5 of 'em in the bottom :D

If you drink real coffee throw the ground around the plants - its like sharp grit they don't like it.

In a Greenhouse get some of Murphy's Slugit (it comes in liquid form so no danger of birds picking it up) and water the pathway and around the plants.

Slugs and snails are lazy they generally take the same path as the previous night, so watch for their tracks and place your trap of choice in their way - you should increase the kill

If you have no spare beer try sour milk, works just as well

You could also sprinkle salt on them (makes a bit of a mess):p - although don't put salt on the soil or plants.

Can I use the ground to make coffee first? I love 'real' coffee and would hate to waste it ;)

Egg shells are said to work around the plants or as already mentioned beer put into sunken containers.

I always go round the supermarket "reduced" shelves to find the old beer cans too!
My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being, hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.

By coffee grounds, it means after it has been used for coffee. I get mine from starbucks; they bag it up and leave it free for us to take away, and i usually have a small amount from our machine at home.
  • Ok after losing a lot of plants last year I want to start the war early.
I have young children a dog, rabbit and a cat so pellets are a no no.
Last year tried beer traps but must confess to drinking the beer so very little made it to the traps. :p
    Any ideas peeps

Copper tape around pots works. You will find a row of slugs and snails around the pots.

On my other plants I plan to try garlic slug repellent this year.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p
