Re smokeless fuel - we have had a few flexible 904/904 rot with high sulphate smokeless and we have heard this is becoming a worry for liner suppliers. Fortunately the few we have had go at the top after 6-8 years have been replaced by the suppliers. OH was talking the other day that 316 rigid is probably better if smokeless is going to be used.

Of course if we are talking twin walled, insulated (very expensive) sectional flues for the OP (I think, Im confused by all the postings now) and that can be mega bucks especially the cost of joints, collars and fixings.

I will try to grab him tonight and answer the pm (so busy this time of year, he is eating dinner and speaking on the phone at the same time every night) although I have to say Im a bit confused now too :)

Mucky, we only install stainless steel cowls as we have seen ally ones rot after 2 years.

OK, grabbed him between phone calls.

Ive read out the options to him in your posting and whilst he hesitates to give advice on a job he hasnt seen or knows the details of - eg the age of the property/position etc., he reckons the middle quote sounds ok to him. Make sure you get it all in writing, get the 904/904 backfilled or insulated and a written guarantee. A lot of installers dont actually pass on guarantee paperwork we find, so make sure you get it in your hand and its registered. Oh,he just said to say that smokeless fuel will lessen life of the liner, but Id already told you that.
  • Thank you all sooo much for you advice and sharing your knowledge. It has certainly given me some food for thought!
    Thanks
  • Soooo just in case any of you are interested... after some informed deliberation (thanks for all your comments). I have decided that I will spend the extra and have the 904 flexible option fitted rather than the viterous enamel option.
Wouldnt have been able to decide without all of your brill help and informative information.
    Thanks again.....
