I'm not recommending it for everyone, but it seems to work for us, so it might be worth giving it a try?
LOL i do hope you're joking!!0 -
So, he actually gets £110 a month more than you thought anyway - and he earns getting on for twice the amount that you have coming in...
All I can suggest is that you sit down with him, and say that you're struggling, so you need him to work with you to reduce some of the bills like food, utilities (turn those lights off) and socialising.
One thing I wondered - the council tax gets a 25% reduction because you're a student, so really you should only pay £20 towards this and he should pay £40 (not quibbling about the odd £1!) as the whole reason that there's a reduction is to take a little bit of financial pressure off you as a student.
Also, from your figures you're both paying in £400 a month to the joint account, but it only totals £762.30 - what happens to the other £37.70 each month?
Also, I know it's only a small thing, but the £10 for petrol every few weeks - what journeys is this for? As it is a small amount then could he not pay for this himself completely?
The only other bit of advice though is that he's not going to see that you're struggling if you loan him money halfway through the month - if he asks again say no!Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

Many thanks for replying its nice to get a new perspective on things.
The extra money that goes into the account gets spent on things that need doing to the house- ie a new carpet for the stairs but with the interest going up by half a percent next month that will probabally get eaten up by that.
Hear what you're saying about the council tax being lower 'cause of me actually everything else is so low because i've shopped round for everything (And got cashback etc) He wont do anything towards the joint finances and wouldn't have a clue how much we have in there!!
The petrol is so low as we only use it occasionally to go to Tesco's and OH drives to work about once a week when its raining or he's too lazy!!SO he probabally tops it up more than me as he uses it more than me.0 -
I
thought you had to do a year as an "NQT" (Newly Qualified Teacher) before you became a "fully qualified" teachers and could then do supply? I could be wrong, but I'm sure this was the case with Mrs Dither when she passed her PCGE many moons ago.
nope - I did it as soon as I had finished my course. I started the day I finsihed uni (literally that afternoon) and worked until the summer hols.
you can complete your nqt as a supply teacher but have to get a full term to make it count as the school have to do reports and observations of you.
If your oh is only earning 1200 ish mpth thats only about 21000 ish anyway.
what did i do there? just meant to quote it and it went all funny on me!!!!

LOL Nope i'm back again!!
I didn't manage to have a little chat w/ other half last night as we had a friend round but will do tonight i'm thinking of asking him to pay 450/m plus car costs and i'll pay 350/m until im settled i think this is fair.
What actually worries me is the fact that he managed to spend 810 in 13 days pretty much on himself and has nothing to show for it (part from a 20 quid coat from Oxfam!!)0 -

Aha ive just read your last post thread post all is clear now!!0 -
Yes, sorry. I slightly edited my real last post on here so as to provide a bit of humour on my "Last Post(er)" thread. I hope you don't mind.
My "real" last post on here said that as soon as my girlfriend (now wife) moved in with me, we set up a joint account and had both salaried paid into it. Neither of us are mad with our money, so we never really have any arguments about who is spending what, and if we want to buy something expensive (say more than £50) on ourselves, we just mention it to the other person.
Sounds to me from what you've said that your OH is not that good with his money so having a joint account where all your cash is combined would cause more problems than it solves. The most fair solution would be to pay the bills proportionately to what you both earn (as long as you're truthful about what you earn!!)Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)

Yes i don't think i can combine accounts as i wouldn't sleep at night-he 'borrowed' 40 quid from the joint account as he was skint one month and it took 3 months of me nagging him to put it back!!0
