I have to say sometimes the genuine ones are not of the quality I'd expect, and since the genuine ones are often made in China anyway it's not too far a stretch to suppose these may be made by people with the same skills (and possibly the same materials). They are cheap enough for some of us to feel it's worth buying one as a tester.
I have to agree the newer Kipling bags are not very good quality compared to the older ones. Way inferiortravelover0 -

Looking back Snap Ant I see you did buy it. I'm looking forward to seeing it as the lining looked really cute and like you say the leather looks soft.
