  • My experience of hermes has been quite good compared to Yodel.

Ordered something online on, I think, Thursday, and Burtons said it'd take 5 working days... got a text on Saturday saying it'll be with me in 2 working days, as it'd just be handed to the courier.... it was delivered to me on Sunday, which I was extremely surprised about :) Well Done Hermes.

I presume the large retailers use them because they must be dirt cheap?
Correct the couriers get 50-75p a parcel. If customers were willing to spend more on delivery (Not talking an extra pound here a good £3-5) and not beg for free delivery/codes then maybe the likes or Hermes and Yodel will cease to exsist, But then again thanks to the likes of this site pigs may fly and cheap couriers will thrive.

If customers were prepared to pay more the likes of hermes would still exist. The retailers would just make more profit. Melbell you have such issues with this site, I wonder why you even come here.

So the "I demand free delivery threads" are only going to push courier standards up.

I don't have issues with this site. Unless its the money boards with all the armchair financial advisors
  • Well if they were delivered on the day the say they were going to delivery people are more likely to be in.

You really would think so........ but around 40% of people are not. I don't want to be late with your parcels...but there is a knock on effect especially at this time of year.
The volume of parcels couriers are receiving at the moment are virtually impossible to deliver on time.....if I have to spend 10 minutes at a house (try a neighbour, try another neighbour, look for a shed....then leave a card) and I'm receiving over 200 parcels per day.....
It's not an easy job , I do every second weekend .... I couldn't do anymore!!!

Nobody's demanding free delivery. What people are complaining about, rightly, is the very poor standards provided by some companies. The amount paid by customers has no bearing on the matter. If those customers started paying double do you honestly think companies would start using better couriers? No, they'd boost their own profits.

I have to agree with the OP. I have had a lot of difficulties with Hermes too. I ordered a lot of stuff from Debenhams and after a few lost deliveries the driver turned up in a dusty battered out Nissan Micra smelling of cigarette smoke. Needless to say that would never happen with the likes of UPS.

I presume the large retailers use them because they must be dirt cheap?

I understand the problem with the cigarette smoke, but why would you care what the car is and what it looks like?
  • I'm so glad it's not just me having problems with this company.

I ordered an item from Tesco Direct on the 9th December. Today I just thought I'd check the tracking number - just aswell I did as it was apparently signed for by the customer at 13.40 yesterday.

However I didn't sign for it and no card was left to tell me where it is (this is becoming a common issue with all delivery companies and Royal Mail just lately). I looked on the Hermes website to discover you can't contact them at all.

I called Tesco Direct before 9 this morning and was given the surname of the person who signed for it but they have no further details such as the house number. The surname is not one of my neighbours at all. The lady at Tesco Direct said she would email Hermes and call me as soon as she knows more info. I've chased this up again in the last half hour but they are still awaiting a reply from Hermes. Dreadful service!

  • I ordered clothing from debenhams on Saturday and got a card through the door on Monday from hermes since i wasn't in. Panic sets in, Hermes is a nightmare etc. Phoned the mobile number of the local courier that was printed on the card and left a voicemail to leave it with neighbour, Tues I come home to my parcel through my letterbox??? Why not just do that on Monday??? Weird

On the upside I did get my parcel!

I can't even track my parcel as the site just says it doesn't exsist. As said above you can't even contact them.

I have had to email Millets and it is at least 2 days before they even get back to you.

I have complained but still heard nothing. I am going to have to ring the 0844 number on my mobile just to find out where my son's Hoodie is.

Had I known Millets used Hermes I would never have ordered it.
Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.
