But I don't want a Sherbet Dab.......

I haven't had a sherbet dib dab for years but not missing them ! Sometimes I have a fancy for a turkish delight or a crunchie or whatever, but I don't want a box full of them . DH asks what I'd like . I said I love Yankee candles , but that's not very exciting said he , just a candle . Just because he thinks it's not exciting he won't buy it . I'm not hard to buy for really . We do our best to get things people like but sometimes it's hard . The grandkids want their good presents + then just stuff to open , some of it's tat, stocking fillers . I don't really need anything but I'd be happy with a few nice bits . It's one day and if I don't get my candle I'll treat myself after .0

I agree. I bought dad's present a couple of months ago - the new book by an author we both like (he lent me her first book), which I got signed by the author with a 'Merry Christmas' dedication for him. When I told him I'd got his present he said 'but you don't know what I want'.
...
I wouldn't buy anybody a book months in advance (particularly by a favourite author) as they might have bought it by the time the day arrived.0 -
He never buys hardbacks, always waits for the paperback to appear in Morrisons, so I don't have to worry about that.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

my brother for my birthday bought me an olympic branded space hopper ... there are many reasons why this is an unsuitable gift but mainly because i walk with a stick - so op best thing is buy yourself something you like wrap it up and pretend its from that person

Have you ever had a rubbish present only to find out it's a hint to a much better present you'll receive later?
I had dropped hints about garden plants/ garden centre vouchers etc. so when I unwrapped the naffest bunch of fake red roses, I presumed it was a hint. Needless to say when I thanked the gift giver in person... nothing else was mentioned. I really did receive a naff bunch of fake red roses. I couldn't even give them away at a car boot sale.MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.0 -
Perhaps he prefers paperbacks?
You don't think you're being just a tad 'provocative for the sake of it', now?
I'm sure Ames will know what he prefers and why he waits.

Sorry.
But that's what you get for being 'expectant'.

Absolutely. I now expect nothing from this person and have been surprised (not pleased) with a teatowel set, a disposable camera and an opened box of chocolates with one missing.MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.0 -
It could be worse, the first year my hubby and I had christmas together I went to a lot of effort to get his some smellies that matched his aftershave, thermal gloves and a mp3 player as well as loads of sweeties books and dvds.
However, my stocking was slightly different. It contained a lavender gift set that my nan would have turned her nose up at, and a flashing pen, both from the pound shop. That was it, not even a tangerine or chocolate coins!!! Needless to say it put the day off to a bad start.0 -
Has anyone seen the range of Heinz gifts in BHS http://www.bhs.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogNavigationSearchResultCmd?langId=-1&storeId=13077&catalogId=34096&beginIndex=1&viewAllFlag=false&pageSize=40&searchTermScope=3&searchTermOperator=LIKE&searchType=ALL&sort_field=Relevance&searchTerm=baked+beans&x=0&y=0

When I was in there people were snatching them off the shelves like there was no tomorrow and I wonder what the people who receive them will think. Times are hard for everyone so I can't imagine many people being grateful for this sort of thing.0
