Hiya Alison, welcome to DFW. You can tell us your deepest darkest debt secrets - it won't be anything that hasn't already been posted by one of us ... trust me, we are all in the same boat. Post your SoA when you feel ready, I bet you will be surprised by how much people on here can help you reduce your outgoings by without you even noticing you are cutting back.Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015

Hi Alison, just picked this one up.
Everyone has already said what I would say - post up a full list. Be as honest as you can be. It may not be nice seeing it all on paper but once you know what you are dealing with, then it is much easier to tackle it, rather than being slapped in the face later on by something that you had not thought about right now.
So, do your SOA, let the lovely people on here do their stuff and we will see how you can make changes.
There are lots of things you can do, and there will be more than one option open to you for you to take control.
You have done the hard bit - now you are amongst friends and you will get lots of advice, support and a few laughs along the way, which always help!
Good luck, and keep posting xSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Big hugs to you hun I know it feels awful but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Post up that SOA and you can then start working on a plan of action either alone or with the CCCS/Payplan.
I hit rock bottom too a few weeks ago and at the time it seemed completely insurmountable. Now I have a budget and a plan and I know where i'm going things are so much brighter already and they will be for you too.

Alison,
It may not be as bad as you think. Post your SOA and people here with the experience and Knowledge will be able to help you.
One Question - do you have any bank charges that you can claim back? This may make a huge difference to how much you actually owe.
Well done for taking the first step and coming on here for help - it takes a huge amount of courage to get this far. Remember, Every journey starts with a single step

All the advice above is good advice, so all I will add is that no court in britain will force you to pay so much that you can't put a roof over your head, clothing on your back and a TV in your living room:)
There is a way out.
Talk to CCCS, PayPlan, The CAB or the National Debt Line. Don't be ashamed; they've dealt with it all.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Alison, firstly welcome to MSE. I was in your position back in october, came on here with no hope of sorting ourselves out and debts that were just overwhelming us because even though our debts aren't as big as some on here we only earn minimum wage. Just wanted to say it will get better and if you post your SOA as others have suggested we can have a look through and see if we can help. The CCCS and Payplan are excellent companies who gives free debt advice and I strongly suggest you contact them.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

Welcome to DFW. I was exactly in your position and can't believe how things have turned round. I also earn a decent salary, but this would disappear into the overdraft black hole. There was no way out. I found this board and reclaimed my bank charges and that was the one lift I needed. It got me out of the vicious circle and I now only have one outstanding loan - this time last year I was drowning in debt and missing payments left, right and centre.
I now feel I'm back in control. the bank charges made the difference, but I've now got a completely different attitude to money, and believe it or not (find it hard to believe myself) I'm actually saving a bit.
Actually can I correct what I've just said? it wasn't the bank charges that made the difference. it was the fantastic help, advice and support I got on here. The bank charge refund was a result of that.:money:
Sit down, take stock, work out your incomings and ongoings, and just doing that will make you feel more in control
Good luck - we're all rooting for you

Hi Alison :hello:
There is always a way out, that's the first thing, and the wonderful people on this board will help you find it. Facing up to the debts is the hardest step, and you've taken that by adding everything up - so congratulations for that.
No-one is going to judge you, we're all in debts for different reasons and for widely varying amounts - I promise you won't shock us!

I felt like you a few weeks ago, and now i cant tell you how liberated i feel knowing that i am now 'coping' with my debts thanks to all the great & friendly people on here. I feel really motivated about paying my debts off! I even feel less tense, and i feel better than i have done in months- knowing that there is a light at the end of that dark tunnel! Once you post your SOA, there will be people here to help, and see what you can cut down/save on! Didnt want to read & run- hope you feel a wee bit better reading the replies!

I was also in the same position and had a major panic. But with the help of this website I sat down and drew up a realistic budget and spoke to some of my creditor's to get a little more time. I'm now back on track and taking control of the situation.
This is a very supportive place to come with alot of fantastic ideas for saving money and even making a little extra.
Good luck with it!
