I can't see a way out.

I've just sat down and worked out how much I owe and when I saw the total I've just nearly thrown up.

I don't how I'm ever going to find a way out. :(

I don't know what I'm going to do.

    Oh poor you.

There is always a way out. I could not read and not post. First place to start may be someone like the Consumer Credit Counselling Service who can help you to set a budget and work off paying your debts off.

I am sure someone will be along with better info soon.

There IS a way out of this....people have been in our situation and come out the other side

Hi hun, first of all have you posted your statement of affairs? see southernscousers post for first timers. Once you do that everyone will come along and see what cuts you can make to your spending and what your options are with regards to your debts.

Try not to panic we have all thought there's no way out of this, but someone will always find a way for you.

Alison sorry you got such a shock, that happens when you start writing it all down... but now you are in the right place to get a 'PLAN' no one here will judge, you only try to help , could you maybe get together a SOA so that people can see just what the problems are. They will have seen it all before and be able to tell you where you are maybe going wrong or where you can change things for the better....

Well done you for making a start.....:T

    ALISON

    Do have a hug (((ALIson)))

Weve all been there, it is awful when the realisation sets in.

I would start by getting all your papers together, and lets have a look at your SOA.

there will be someone here at all times so grab yourself a :coffee: pen & paper & calculator at the ready and lets see what we can recommend.

Dont worry you are among freinds here, and it only gets better when you deal with things head on.

    We'll get you there ,

    Hugs

hi alison, i dont know what your circumstances are but i felt like you afew months ago. we're still a long way from being debt free, but i do feel as though we have taken control of the situation.

i dont know if this will help, but this is what we have done so far:

transferred existing credit card debts to 2 new cards with 0% (when this runs out in aug we will try & move the debt again) this way we are chipping away at the debt rather than just paying interest

we arranged with our building society to take 12 months mortgage holiday, so we could pay more off the debts each month (our monthly payments on the mortgage will go up after the year , but if we can reduce our other debts , our total monthly outgoings will still be a lot less)

joining this forum has really helped!!!lots of support, and tons of advice about ways to save money on food, electric phone etc etc

good luck, i'm sure you will find a way out, keep focusing on the small steps you are taking, rather than panicking about the overall picture , that way you will feel like you are getting somewhere and its easier to keep positive.

    all the best

Thanks everyone. I'm still sat here crying.

I have a good job. I earn a really good salary, but my debts are so huge I can't seem to cope - I'm in the red even when my salary goes in and so my money runs out half way through the month. I've got debts all over the place and I'm now in arrears on two of my credit cards, and I can't pay them until a weeks time when I get paid again....and then the whole month on month merry go round starts again.

I can't get a 0% credit card to transfer my balances because my credit rating is so bad.

I can't see what I can do. I can't survive like this. I feel like my whole world is caving in, and I can't tell anyone because I'm so ashamed.

I just don't know what to do. I really don't. I feel like I'm drowning.

You can tell us chick. No one on here will berate you for your situation.

You need to try and take a step back now that you know how much you owe.

Step 1. Open up another bank account with another bank. You can get a basic bank account with most banks now. I went to Natwest. The online access is very good and up to date by the minute.

Step 2. Post a SOA. As lynz said and as directed by SS at the top of the board. This is important. It helps to see where your money is going and where savings can be made.

Step 3. Post your debts with APR's balances and min payments. Then someone can advise you on which debts to pay off first.

Please don't cry. This time last year neither me nor OH had jobs - just debts. We have managed to pay off nearly £5,000 without even trying, just by cutting down and being more savvy with our spending.

Its not always easy but at the moment you feel out of control and you need to regain that control. YOU need to control the debts not the other way round.
