Morrisons - meat in vegetarian pasty - WWYD?

Just to get the debate raging - what do you think the reaction would have been if my wife had been Jewish and the vegetarian labelled pasty had contained bacon and pork...........
Or if she had a nut allergy and a nut free labelled pasty had contained a nut filling........
Just asking....

well i expect allergen controls such as nuts to be more tightly controlled than veggie controls. So less chance to get meat mixed up.
I have not looked but, not sure if deli counter products have nut policy disclaimer policy on all the products?
If your wife is Jewish etc. I would say its no different to her been veggie and eating meat as you have not mentioned wether she is a veggie for moral reason or just does not like the taste of meat etc.
Its not going to kill a Jewish person to eat meat. However only one thread I have seen here recently has a death been mentioned on it and thats the Jack russell one. So if people only complaimed if people died then this forum would be pretty empty.0 -
On the actual error.
It could be a number of issues.
1) deli counter mix up when setting up the fixture
2) pie manufacturer putting wrong fill in the pasty.
3) deli operative miss-hearing.
Options 2 & 3 are the more likely options.0 -
I feel for you and your wife, I'm a veggie who's had 'surprise' meat in food too. Sadly, in my experience no one in charge cares..lol a combination of people being rushed, dealing with what they consider more important issues and the fact that non veggies don't really see it in the same way as us veggies (understandably I spose) means your kind of banging your head against a wall. But I'd go in and tell them, why not expect a voucher as a goodwill gesture?0

I recently complained to Tesco about a cajun chicken wrap that had no chicken it it, and they refunded me.0 -

Lol, thankyou, glad you understand - once went to a pub that was having a barbecue and they made a big deal of advertising that they would offer an option for vegetarians - when we got there they were cooking the veggie skewers on the same meat fat soaked grill as the meat with the fat spitting all over the veggie dish!
Also been to a Carvery proudly offering a veggie nut cutlet type option, only to be told that the accompanying veggies had been roasted in the meat fat and the only gravy had been made with the meat fat!No i'm not. Just putting a bit of perspective on things.
As a non veggie, I guess you don't have the understanding of the deep phsycological impact it can have to a life long vegetarian. I'm sure you'll think that pathetic - but so are most phobias and foilbles that people have, yet they are accepted with understanding.

Given the profound psychological impact you speak of, surely it is highly inadvisable for somebody with these dietary rules to buy cheap mass-produced food from the supermarket where potential for filling mix-ups can occur?
It is impossible to mass produce these sorts of food at a price people will pay with a 0% error rate, so it is up to individual consumers to accept the risk, or avoid such products entirely.0 -
