Morrisons - meat in vegetarian pasty - WWYD?

Ok, have just bought my wife - a life long vegetarian - a fresh cheese and onion pasty from the hot food section at Morrisons. Back home she took several large bites of it and began to chew, then spat it back out. The pasty was actually a corned beef pasty! It has made her feel really ill, as well as leaving her with no lunch!

I checked the pack, just in case the assistant had misheard me and picked up the wrong pasty, but no, it says cheese and onion on it.

Now this is obviously a simple mistake - one pasty looks much the same as another and someone had obviously put them in the wrong section. I would ordinarily just leave it at that but....

I have had problem after problem with this store - mispriced items on shelves, offers advertised on shelves yet not coming off at the till, problem kids hanging around the entrance and intimidating customers and the manager stating it was 'not his problem', etc etc etc.

I cannot use another store as I live out in the sticks and this is the only supermarket for miles around.

What would you do?
Go back and complain to the uninterested manager?
Write a complaint to the head office?
leave it as just one of those things?

Just wondered....

  • I would give the store a chance to resolve the complaint first and if no response (or not a satisfactory response) escalate it to head office.

However, given the previous incidents, it may be worth writing a letter to the head office detailing you ongoing concerns as well and asking them to investigate accordingly.

see if the cheese & onion pasty has a different crimp to the corned beef one. There is a good chance they may look a little different to make it easier for the factory and people handling the pie know veggie from meat.

Several large bites? How big is her mouth? Surely one bite would have been enough to

    a) Chew and swallow
    b) Inform, by taste, appearance and smell, a life long vegetarian that the pasty contained meat?

You should complain to Morrisons who should offer you a refund in respect of the cost of the pasty and a voucher for a tenner for your trouble.

I'd say "Oh dear, i just ate a bit of meat. Never mind, it won't kill me" and move on.

Mistakes happen, it isn't going to cause a fatality.

A first bite would probably be the crimped crust, then there's a load of potato before the horrible meat!

I did the same thing, taking OH's pasty instead of mine.

It's no tragedy, but Morrison's can't continue selling them wrong thing. Would a meat -eater complain if there was no meat in his pasty>
